I probably would not mind the spotty coverage as much if the phone did not beep loudly whenever I got into a dead spot. The thing beeps all the time. The price is not bad, but for no contract, I am looking into TracFone or Cricket. Anybody got opinions on that?

Never more than 3 bars inside my house or out. Calls are constantly going to voicemail with no ringing. No reception at all at work in RTP. Every call / store visit results in new direction of blame. VZW is providing a new make of phone shortly to see if problems are handset related. Technical support at nearly Southpoint Mall is worthless.

Outdoors in the woods, I get 5 bars. Service works great. Inside in my basement apartment I get 3 or 4 bars with excellent call quality. Fantastic service overall.

This service was Nextel premerger and it worked pretty well. After the merger, I get horrible reception outdoors and indoors. Callers to my phone frequently get "cannot locate the Nextel subscriber" message. Avoid at all costs

My iPhone gets horrible reception where I live (near 751 and Constitution Dr. in "The Forest" apartment complex). Cell signal bars come and go, and I have to walk around my apartment before I can find a signal. Inside the Fuqua School of Business at Duke, where I'm a student, I get NO reception at all. ATT / Cingular is very spotty throughout Durham. I get ok reception near Target and Wal-Mart and when driving in open space.

Calls would typically sound fine for a few minutes, and then the voice cut-outs begin... and don't end. Calls to Verizon typically result in them saying, "Hmmm", try the *228 sequence again to reset your phone, or, "we sent a technician out to your area and he confirmed that you have a weak signal in your area.". Using an indoor signal booster with an antenna outside seemed to help a bit but you still occasionally get the voice cutouts.

After years of good reception, my phone no longer functions in Trinity Park on the Sprint network. The phone has two to four bars, but calls will not connect and none will come in either. All the Sprint reps I have called say their network is fine. My wife and I both have the same problem with different phones, so we know that it isn't our equipment. I have to set my phone on roam to make or receive a call anywhere around my house. When I drive over to 147, about 1 mile, it works perfectly.

Reception nearby is usually 3 bars outside with 1-2 bars inside. The service is acceptable between here and Hillsborough, NC with only a few localized spots of service drop.

Very poor reception ever since Cingular ceased using Suncom's Towers (late 2006). Cannot make calls from inside of buildings (houses), and half the time, calling from out of doors is a futile task. Cingular (AT&T) claims that a new tower will be open for service on Sept 1 that will correct this issue for the Grove Park area of Durham.

I frequently get no signal and / or dropped calls. A friend of mine on Verizon gets great reception on his phone, a Motorola. I will be getting a new phone soon. Most people get lousy reception at my house.

My phone tends to drop calls in these areas. If you have a kid at Creekside Elementary or Githens Middle School, don't expect to be able to chat on the phone while waiting to pick them up. I've had this problem with Motorola V180, V220, and V3 (RAZR). Reception can also be spotty at Duke University and around certain parts near UNC campus (and also inside of the dorms, even though Cingular is the official carrier for the university).

I tried Alltel because of the My Circle deal so I could call back home for free since I'm here at school and just switched from Verizon. I don't hear nasty comments about either like I do about Cingular here. But Alltel seems to have a better signal all around the campus. Maybe they have an extra tower or something or maybe it was the phone I had. But I can make call inside anywhere in a couple buildings I had to walk outside with Verizon. Around the city, Alltel also does a great job also and after trying it out for a couple months, there's not a single place in the entire Triangle where I've noticed my phone dropping below 3 bars and it's usually on 5. That was a big surprise because Verizon would tend to have a lot of problems outside the metro area and American Village was bad too along with several other places that were spotty. But the call quality seems better on Alltel too. But I would recommend Alltel for Durham. I'm very happy with their service here.
