Little to no signal on old TDMA handset from Cingular. Not much better elsewhere either.

Poor reception everywhere in house. Occ. good reception in middle of driveway. Calls routinely go directly to voice mail without phone ringing and then show in my in-box days to weeks later.

Occasionally 1 bar if I get on house roof. Had to purchase AT&T microcell to be able to use phone inside. Large signal hole along much of Whitfield.

I have recently moved to Durham and have been very disappointed in my Verizon wireless coverage. There is apparently a device that radio shack's carry that amplifies reception that runs for $300+. I'd rather not switch carriers, but I also don't want to be stuck with a huge bill just to be able to talk on the phone inside my house. Does anyone know which carriers do work in this area as we try to make this decision? A friend recommended AT&T, but everyone's comments here give me some concern.

In my house, no bars. Outside my house, no bars. Anywhere from Durham to Chapel Hill, in my car, inside a store, outside --no bars. Calls go straight to voice-mail When calling AT&T, response has been: "Coverage in your area is excellent"

The is almost no signal in Hope Valley. Seems to be a dead zone for AT&T no matter what phone is used.

Good coverage, much better than any other provider I've tried here (including AT&T, Virgin, and Verizon). Works inside my house fairly consistently. Not perfect, but certainly adequate.

Never more than 3 bars inside my house or out. Calls are constantly going to voicemail with no ringing. No reception at all at work in RTP. Every call / store visit results in new direction of blame. VZW is providing a new make of phone shortly to see if problems are handset related. Technical support at nearly Southpoint Mall is worthless.

I frequently get no signal and / or dropped calls. A friend of mine on Verizon gets great reception on his phone, a Motorola. I will be getting a new phone soon. Most people get lousy reception at my house.

My phone tends to drop calls in these areas. If you have a kid at Creekside Elementary or Githens Middle School, don't expect to be able to chat on the phone while waiting to pick them up. I've had this problem with Motorola V180, V220, and V3 (RAZR). Reception can also be spotty at Duke University and around certain parts near UNC campus (and also inside of the dorms, even though Cingular is the official carrier for the university).
