I am in Elizabeth City semi-permanently and residing in one of the new housing developments south of town outside of city limits. Currently in the house I get 0-1 bar depending on exactly where I am, and that signal will fluctuate. I currently have one of the few 4G LTE phones that ATT offers at the moment; the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket. In and around the town I get decent signal, anywhere from 2 bars to 5 bars and it's a HSPA+ (technically "4G"). However, once I head south of the city past the Coast Guard base, I lose pretty much all signal and the reception is spotty. I really expected as much. This is a bit of a remote area, the previous location I was in (Oceanside, CA) was literally next door to a LTE tower. While I find the signal frustrating, the lack of help from ATT is very frustrating. Don't expect much signal south of town for GSM networks (ATT and T-mo), and prepare to deal with terrible battery life at home while the phone struggles to find a signal.

I"ve complained to AT&T on numerous occasions that their coverage is not what they advertise. I barely get one bar on my signal meter. I get no signal when in my house. I have 2 phones, one is an iPhone the otehr is a Blackberry. Both are on AT&t and both have the same signal. I tried to get one of the ATT cellphone repeaters that you can put in your house to increase you signal, but that service is not offered in the Elizabeth City area. I love my iPhone, but I hate AT&T. Their coverage in the Elizabeth City area sucks. There is no signal when you head south of EC on 17. So no signal in Hertford, Edenton, etc... .. I keep hitting the ATT app on my iPhone to complain about the signal coverage but there is no change. I have yet to see any additional towers put up. DON'T GO WITH AT&T IF GIVEN THE CHOICE!

On the northeast side of house can keep a call going, otherwise calls drop. North of Elizabeth City reception is better.

AT&T reception OK in Elizabeth City itself, but almost non-existent reception in our neighborhood. Also along US Route 17 south of Elizabeth City, including Edenton and until close to Windsor, NO reception at all. In the hospital parking lot in Edenton--NO RECEPTION! When our contract in up in January, we're switching cell phone carriers for sure.

I hate dealing with Sprint--Bad reception, charged for services not ordered, did not cancel service despite phone calls in advance of contract's end date, letter stating I was being turned over to collection agency... should I go on? Thankfully, the contract is over!

Reception is poor at home and considered roaming when I'm at work north of the hospital. Sprint charged for services I did not order. Glad this contract is almost up!

Alltel has not worked within 4 to 5 miles from my home in over two years. Occasionally my phone will get five bars for less then a minute and then be back to zero bars. Just enough time for a call to get through and then drop it before you can answer your phone, what a tease. I have tried three different phones and none have improved reception. Additionally, the phone has poor and / or no reception in buildings like the mall, wall-mart, etc., and there are dead spots everywhere. Do not recommend Alltel in the Elizabeth City Area.
