I have noticed much better reception all around the Elon campus with Alltel compared to others using other services, even Verizon which I use to carry. I found out that the tower near campus on Haggard St.is owned by Alltel and it has made a difference around this area. The Alltel signal is the strongest all over this general area once you get away from the interstate where others start to be spotty. Also be sure to get a Motorola or a Nokia phone. I've also noticed, comparing to others, that Motorolas will pick up a signal a little better than others like Kyocera or LG by as much as a couple bars.

Phone Model: Nokia 3585i |

Less than a mile in any direction I get 5 bars. but in this one small area (which includes my house), I get 1 or 2 bars on a Nokia phone and zero (can't maintain a connection) on a Kyocera. AllTel sez they've got towers close enough that we shouldn't be having a problem, and they offer no suggestions for improvement. Also, ironically enough, the local AllTel office no longer carries any Nokia models. Dunno what I'll have to do when our current Nokia phones die.
