Verizon was the bomb, rock solid coverage all over Charlotte for me. I tried the iphone for 3 days in parallel with my Verizon phone and it seemed passable. Unfortunately even when the iPhone says you have network or 3g you don't. The call quality is horrible, drops frequently even with 5 bars. Also irritating that when you go to place a call it takes 4-8 seconds to actually connect and hear the phone ringing. Often times the other party answers before I even hear the phone ring. I would NOT recommend ATT to anyone ever. I'm breaking my contract and going back to Verizon. There's a reason Consumer Reports rated ATT last in the top 25 markets in 2009 and there's a reason Verizon was rated #1 in 24 / 25 top cities.

I am a brand-new AT&T subscriber and I cannot get reception. I had an older Palm Treo 650 and then paid for an upgrade to a Palm Centro and I only ever get 1 bar for about 5 seconds. Most of the time I see the "No Service-SOS only" indicator on my phone.

Cingular reception is horrible. In most parts of my house I have 'No Network Coverage'. My wife's V600 phone gets marginally better Cingular reception. Visitors to my house with Sprint do slightly better, still poor. Verizon appears to work fine in my house with 3 to 4 bars.

I appalled by how poor the reception is in the Wynfield Forest area of Huntersville. Between 0 and 1 bars all the time. Of course 1.5 miles in either direction is a Cingular office with 5 bars (in-store amplifier I'm sure). As a heavy cell user, this is the pits... My wife's Sprint service is only marginally better, but more consistent.

I can see a cell phone tower out my back door less than a mile away and the reception is still awful... constantly losing calls.
