If you are travelling between Lenoir and Taylorsville and need to make a call give up on the Sprint / Nextel company. With the phone set to accept all towers their "free roaming" doesn't even pick up a tower visible from the road.

I was very frustrated with Cingular. They usually had a good signal but I would get so many dropped calls and times I couldn't make a call because the tower was busy. I did some comparison shopping between Verizon and Alltel and Alltel gave more anytime minutes, had My Circle, some family plans with free texting, and overall seemed like a much better deal than Verizon. In a way this worried me, but I tried Alltel because of the 15 day trial and I am so happy I'm not paying more for fewer minutes with Verizon. The signal with Alltel is great all over the area. I don't have any problems at all making or holding a call anywhere. The signal is even stronger than throughout most of the area and my Cingular phone and is even better than co-workers at hospital that use Verizon. No problems at Wal-Mart or Mall either which was especially bad for dropping calls with my last provider. Absolutely no problems here or on the road with Alltel and I'm loving the service. If you live in Lenoir, I've been convinced that Alltel is the way to go.

Just dropped my Sprint service after a week. Too many dead spots and weak service areas. Anyway, my wife has a Verizon Wireless phone (Samsung A650) and I thought I'd give them a try with their Motorola E815 phone on a FamilyShare plan. I am amazed! This phone cannot seem to find a dead area or drop a call! I cannot believe this! We were driving down Union Grove road today, off the Connelly Springs road, and my wife's Samsung A650 kept going down in bars and hit a few dead areas, but my Motorola 815 took the licking and kept on ticking to at least 2 bars, but most of the time I had 3 or more bars. If you get Verizon and you live and / or travel a lot in and around southern Caldwell County, get the Motorola E815, nothing else. On a side note, I was afraid that the 815, since it was an all digital phone, would have to be sent back for a tri-mode phone. Boy, am I ever wrong.

Went inside Tri-County Wireless store whcih sells Verizon Wireless (yes, that is correct, went inside a Verizon Wireless store with my Sprint phone) to get a Verizon phone. Had problems porting number, so I had to call Verizon customer service (my wife has a Verizon phone) on my Sprint phone. Called three times and got dropped three times. Sprint got service only right next to the windows. Then it was still problematic at best. Finally found out why, lower band frequencies pass through buidlings better.

Great reception, overall, all around city limits of Lenoir and surrounding area. However, this is considering that you do not count on the dropped calls, which is seemingly a trademark of Cingular.

No reception at Kings Creek Elementary school and 1 to 1.5 miles both ways. Other than that, good reception between Lenoir and Wilkesboro.

If you are traceling between Lenoir and Wilkesboro, you get 3 dead spots, lasting no more than 3 to 7 seconds each. Reception is all digital roam with varied signal strength.

If you're inside Walmart, forget about receiving your calls. In the front part of the store, you may pick up one bar, maybe.

Highly traveled secondary road with almost zero coverage. No way to hold a call while travelling. If you're able to complete call while pulled off road you're lucky. This is another area with yard dwellers trying to make calls. More bars please... .

Depends which way the wind blows if you have service or not -- consistently drops calls. When it's not dropping calls it's on Cingular extend (suncom or USA490). It's a real drag. 7 digit dialing in this area but when extend mode must dial 10 - only to have call get dropped. Only about 3.5miles from tower -- need more towers
