I have never had a problem with AT&T's service here in Mount Airy, in some areas (rural, with lots of tall trees) I may drop to 1-2 out of 7 bars, but can still make / receive calls that are load and clear on both ends. As far as I can recall, I've only dropped maybe two calls in almost 2 years of using AT&T. The only drawback to AT&T is when traveling to some parts of Stokes county, where there is no signal. As of today (Oct. 8th, 2010) it appears that AT&T 3G is now live in Mount Airy, NC. I just happened to notice it while in the parking lot outside of Staples on Hwy. 601 (7 of 7 bars), then driving south down Hwy. 52 towards Bannertown / Boone's Hill it dropped back to "normal" GSM (still, full 7 of 7 bars). Later on today, I also started getting a 3G signal here in Bannertown / Boone's Hill. While out to dinner on the other side of town, still had strong 3G signal (6-7 out of 7 bars.) I'll be going up outside of town past Toast tonight and will see if the 3G signal reaches that far. I've been streaming internet radio for the past hour, with no interruptions or buffering, yipee!
