Just east of this intersection we get 1 to 3 bars signal on phone, but all call attempts fail. When we were with Alltel and roamed to Verizon we could make calls. Added an external antenna and amplifier in truck and now have 3 to 5 bars signal. Still cannot make calls. When contacting Verizon they seem to have no clue or just tell us the techs are "too busy today". Their coverage maps show full digital and broadband signal on our property. Verizon is the only carrier that even works in this area. You can file a complaint with the FCC @fcc.gov. I did. I hope they can do something. I am tired of having to drive several miles to use the phone!
This is the owner of the new Verizon Wireless Premium Retailer in Murphy (Simply Wireless). I don't want to fill this space with advertising but I do want everyone to know that we read from this forum and communicate back to Verizon Wireless in order to improve signal. Murphy is obviously very rural but that doesn't mean we can't pursue improvements. We do sell in home (wireless) boosters and actually use one in our store (Metal building so signal can be inconsistent without a booster) If anyone needs our services we are located next to Quiznos on Hwy. 64 W. That's about 3 miles East of the 129 and 64 intersection. 828-516-2155 - Kevin Queen - Store Manager
Verizon has installed a new tower west of Murphy in the Ranger area but it has yet to be activated. They can not tell us when that will happen. We are praying that it will be soon and improve our service at our new home on Bell Hill Rd. We have no service here but people can call and leave us voice mails. We get spotty service on 64 into town and then once we reach 129 / 19 we get full service into town and around Murphy. If the new tower does not give us service at our home we will be lowering our plan minutes as it makes no since to pay for lots of minutes if you can't use them. WE will be going to calling cards for our long distance until we see what is going to happen. We like Verizon but we will consider changing if the option for better service and DSL comes available through another carrier.
I've only had Verizon service. My first cell phone was the old Star Tac by motorola, worked pretty good for a while. Found out Verizon or some entity cut analog on more than one of its towers.. Had some reception in spots around lake Hiwassee and one spot on Friendship road. Most of all spotty. I now own a Motorola V60 which isn't much better. The only way to improve service in our area is with a Wilson Cellular trucker Antenna. Several people in the area that have pickups use a magnetic base and put them inside their truck beds. The smaller antennas for cars help a little but not much... My daughter in law has a LGVX5300 that works on Bell hill road between Sunny Point Rd.and hwy 64W. I have heard from several people that the LG's seem to have better reception in general... Also my phones work fine in the Murphy, NC area Blairsville, GA area, Blue Ridge, GA and Cleveland Tn. area. I have traveled with my husband to Washington state last fall and had very little problem in most major towns..
We don't exist, we are no ones: no cell reception, no dsl. I get 2 bars if I drive 2 miles to Fields of the Wood, drive to the top, and stand in one little spot. (pretty tough in the winter). Closest town, Murphy, which is very spotty. Please pay attention to us, we pay taxes!
Have good service from Ranger School to I.O.I. Building in Andrews to the East and West. To the North in the Hills It is spotty but do have reception and can get thru. To the South on 19-129 going to Blairsville have good service.
New House with no high-speed internet (no dsl or cable) and no cell coverage. 30 seconds up the road I can get Verizon network in a small 20 foot strip of road on top of hill. Comments from neighbors is that Verizon network (dig. or analog) can be hit at certain spots on the road. Absolutely forget anyone else's network.
No reception at all on my Blackberry in the Andrews / Murphy area. No voice, No email. Have Suncom service now, which is really Cingular, which was AT&T. No telling who will own it tomorrow. Service is non-existant with all these providers.
