1 or no bars, battery lasts less half 1 / 2 day due to constant roaming.

We had Alltel for about 15 years, and our reception was great and the service was good. Since taken over by Verizon, the reception is poor, calles are dropped and incoming calls are missed. Their prices for comparable programs on Alltel are priced higher. I am going to get rid of Verizon and go elsewhere with my two phones.

I occasionally get a call come through when I am in my house on my cell phone, but I can usually sit by my window or on my porch and get at least 2 bars. When I am on the phone outside or driving from Hwy. 70, I never have a problem getting a signal. I can drive all the way from 95 to the coast on the major roads and have at least 3 bars nearly the whole time, but lose service as soon as I get onto the Air Station or near the Croatan Forest. I also receive a signal in Wal-Mart, Food Lion and other stores that my previous phone wouldn't.

Verizon is a real let down out here - many dropped calls, minimal reception. On the plus side, if you call and complain they may let you out of the contract as it is a known bad coverage area. Terrible on Cherry Point - I miss 10-20% of all calls at a minimum.

Alltel's service is awesome. I've been a customer for 10 years and travel 90% of the time in Eastern North Carolina. I just upgraded last year to the Blackberry 8830 and LOVE the service! I have co-workers that have US Cellular and for customers who need data / broadband service Alltel network is far superior than US Cellular's. I can view attachments and surf the web in a quarter of the time US Cellular customers can and on a more reliable network! I truly can say I have had very few dropped calls and you could not pay me to get out of my carrier.

Occasionally one bar, usually none. Switched from Cingular because they had even worse coverage and terrible customer service, but VZW has only marginally better coverage (and locks down their phones). If I were to do it again, I would go with Alltel.

Virgin Mobile uses Sprint towers / network. Only 1 bar of reception at my home but who cares, I don't use it at home! No reception DownEast from Harkers Island east to Sea Level and probably none all the way to Cedar Island. Not real great reception from Washington, NC to Willimston, NC.
