Alltel's service is awesome. I've been a customer for 10 years and travel 90% of the time in Eastern North Carolina. I just upgraded last year to the Blackberry 8830 and LOVE the service! I have co-workers that have US Cellular and for customers who need data / broadband service Alltel network is far superior than US Cellular's. I can view attachments and surf the web in a quarter of the time US Cellular customers can and on a more reliable network! I truly can say I have had very few dropped calls and you could not pay me to get out of my carrier.

My neighbors call my front porch my "cell phone booth" because I have to run outside to answer my cell... if it does in fact ring. I can rarely receive a call inside, maybe 2 out of 10. Dead as a wedge for the next mile north, then picks back up at Aurora Rd. Otherwise I never lose signal. It's annoying that my one dead spot is inside my home, where you'd obviously spend alot of time.

US Cellular seems to have very good coverage for Craven county even where others are lost.

4 to 5 bars of reception will be displayed on the phones listed; however, most (4 of 5) calls are still dropped. The following newer model phones exibit the same behavior as my Toshiba 9500: Motorola 262, LG LX5550, Motorola V710.

Have good service most of the time unless I am on 70 headed to Havelock by the Forest Ranger sign and the Stately Pines area. No service there at all. Wish there was 3G service in New Bern like there is in Havelock.

Call quality is great, 4g is super slow compared to nation averages. 3g as well. But why wouldn't you be on wifi when you are at home anyway?

I occasionally get a call come through when I am in my house on my cell phone, but I can usually sit by my window or on my porch and get at least 2 bars. When I am on the phone outside or driving from Hwy. 70, I never have a problem getting a signal. I can drive all the way from 95 to the coast on the major roads and have at least 3 bars nearly the whole time, but lose service as soon as I get onto the Air Station or near the Croatan Forest. I also receive a signal in Wal-Mart, Food Lion and other stores that my previous phone wouldn't.
