0-1 bar Terrible service. Too many dropped calls. Voices cut in and out a lot. Same inside and outside the home. Tried to call AT&T about the problem but calls dropped. Had to go to AT&T store to complain about issue but they did nothing.

Reception is awful. I need to go outside to make calls or send texts. Called AT&T to complain and was told to turn the phone off and back on, which does nothing to improve the poor signal strength in this area.

Six Forks / Westbrook, Raleigh, NC 27615 Wed Aug 10, 2011

I just moved here from Indiana. Had a couple of spots through the mountains with no service... hit Raleigh and have had the worst service in 6 years for ANY urban area I've traveled in. Can't get a reliable signal in my new house or within 6 blocks of home. Different parts of town drop to no bars for no apparent reason. My spouse had a LG xenon and had no service even when I could only text. Spouse now has T-Mobile and no problems making and receiving high-quality calls. I'm switching tomorrow. ATT just bought a small local carrier in NE Indiana where my family lives and their service went from great to non-existent. They now have to have micro-towers attached to their computers to get signal. ATT in Raleigh told me they do not guarantee signal inside buildings and that for $200 I could buy a micro-tower for my home. Is this the new money maker for cell companies? Charging for more equipment to make work what used to before? ATT SUCKS!

Usually below average to poor reception. Do not drop many calls but most have sound quality issues. We are on a ridge and the house sits slightly lower than the street. Works best on the street. NEVER get 3G coverage. edge is the best I can get. Travel I540, 64 / 264, 70E and major avenues East of Raleigh. Always lose reception periodically, especially Hwy. 58 / 258 South from Hwy. 264 headed towards Kinston. Data is consistent, but slow. Best AT&T experience was recently in Little Rock, AR. But I don't live in LR, so that doesn't help me. Looking for a new provider soon. ps. I loved Cingular!

Over 5 years with AT&T, got 4 lines, 1 with an iPhone, 2 Samsung and 1 Nokia. I have been very happy with their reception and customer service. My contract just ended so I was trying to find a cheaper alternative but after seeing what people said about Sprint, I am thinking to just stay with them and renew. I guess I will be keeping my iPhone. This iPhone thing is an amazing tool but it's a disease for people, especially kids. Don't ever buy an iPhone, iTouch or any type of smart phones for your kids, you will ruin them. It hypnotizes them, disconnects them from this world and takes them to an evil one. I mean, just look at the symbol of the company that makes the iPhone, JK. I am just talking about the bad apps kids can get for free.

i've had AT&T for just over a year now and have had no reception or data problems with their network in the north raleigh area (i-540 corridor). I think many of the problems that people report are hardware related. not all handsets are created equal and my Nokia or my wife's iphone 3gs have rarely encountered any service difficulties. when I travel to more rural parts of the state, granted the 3g coverage disappears but the edge network is reliable and calls are not lost.

I don't get reception in the basement of one of the buildings I go to class in, but it is, after all, a basement. Same goes for the basement of the student center. Everywhere else, reception is perfect. Even some unlikely places get reception like the tunnel here on campus, and the back of the book store basement.

Live down near Cedar Points Athletic complex and the reception is horrible. Have tried a few things like a TV antenna, aluminum foil and copper wire. You may get an extra bar but nothing really works, this is a true dead spot. Also neighbors have the same problem with Verizon in this area. The phone does not necessarily make the difference.

Horrible reception which I have found is the norm rather than the exception. No reception in the house and limited outside on Eagle Bluff Circle. Dropped calls while driving down 540 at Leesville, I-40 between Durham and 540, I-40 between Greensboro and Asheville and numerous locations on I-95 as well. I am relocated to the area and am exploring other cell carriers. AT&T is the pits in this area of the state.

plagarized another submitted comment since I share the same problems with AT&T service. Reception seems to vary quite a bit, even when stationary. I get a lot of dropped calls, and even worse, the network seems to drop half the circuit sometimes so that the other party cannot hear me or I cannot hear them. Also "Network Busy" or "Service not available" or "Please check the number and dial again" are common messages with AT&T around zip 27612. My phone rarely rings at my house - most of the time I only find out that someone called if they leave a message - and i'll usually get the message within 1-3 hours (nice 'feature'!). because of the difficulty getting a good connection to talk, I rarely can talk, so I reduced my plan since I have so many carry over minutes built up. I had Nextel before and had no problems - only switched to get a phone with more features. Nextel was far more reliable, never any dropped calls, none of the games I have had to play with Cingular. I have a LG 500 - could it be this model phone? Not sure how Nextel is now that they are Sprint, but my girlfriend has Verizon and has no problems. Anyway, I have 5 months left on a two year contract - doubt I will resign with AT&T.

Very hit or miss here. Sometimes reception will be average, but other times below average at the house. I use the cell as my primary phone so I am on it a lot. With that said I've noticed my calls drop right around the fifteen minute mark. It never fails. It's as if there is some sort of timer that cuts calls off for no reason. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but it seems very strange when it happens day after day at the same length of time.

I went with Cingular after the AT&T Wireless / SunCom "slam" -- in spite of the poor reviews I read on here -- and haven't been happier. I've gotten good reception even in the Outer Banks and southeastern NC. I've even been able to talk in UNC-CH buildings, which are notorious cell phone dead zones. The only place where my reception has been substandard is, unfortunately, in my apartment, but then again no one gets a decent signal here (bottom floor, slight valley, etc.). I've had no dropped calls or problems with voice mail thus far. Customer service has been outstanding. Don't believe all the gripes you may read. As others have noted, it seems that the type of phone you use can make a huge difference in your satisfaction level. I recommend Cingular and Nokia.

Two weeks ago my service inside and outside my home were great. Then it went to hell - from five reception bars to one and sometimes none inside my house. Cingular / AT&T can't (won't?) give an explanation. Since I've spoken with two customer service reps with Cingular / AT&T and have no solution or at least plausible explanation. I'll be migrating my digits to another carrier.

Full signal strength at this location, even if I unscrew my antenna. Cingular has pretty good coverage in the N. Raleigh area but not so good inside buildings, due to the 1900 mhz signal that is used in the area.
