I carry an Alltel phone and a Cingular phone which work provides for me. Neither do bad and from friends that use US Cellular, both seem to do better than US Cellular by a little bit. That said, I would recommend Alltel for this area for several reasons. It seems like Alltel does much better indoors, especially when inside a building that's bad at blocking a signal like down at the Wal-Mart or inside a brick home or like the gym at Person High. I also noticed that overall it also tends to have a little stronger signal around Roxboro once you get out of downtown where both seem to do fine. I'm not sure what tower additions other posters for this area were talking about, but I think I've picked 2 for Alltel and 2 for Cingular around here (Compared to 1 for US Cellular). But for some reason, my Alltel phone does do better in more places and the calls sound a little clearer. Also, compare plans, Alltel's seem like a little better deal by giving more minutes and My Circle is worth more than Rollover minutes in my opinion. I would recommend Alltel for the details and better coverage but I don't think there's really a poor provider here that is horrible.

Reception is great at times, although we do need more towers in the county from Alltel. Verizon is coming to the area soon. Cingular plans to add more towers in the area so service is expected to improve greatly. I may switch to Cingular when my contract ends.

I recently swiched my service from Alltel to Cingular. It was the best decison I have made for great cellular service. With Alltel I switched cell phones on several occasion to get a better signal. Since using Cingular, reception has been awesome. I would recommend Cingular to anyone in Person County. Cingular is in the process of adding more towers to the county this will ensure even better reception. Great job Cingular!

Reception through much of Person County is good- very good. There is no Sprint PCS signal, in any part of the county. However, Sprint uses US Cellular's antennas and towers. So, you will get a signal anywhere off the Sprint PCS Network, as long as US Cellular has it's antennas close by. You will be in either Digital or Analog Roam, whenever you are not using Sprint's towers, but you you will get a decent signal anyway. Sprint has no local numbers in the area, the closest is from either Danville, Va or Durham, Nc. Sprint PCS, by far, has one of the most reliable networks available. Just for the record, I don't work with Sprint. I'm just going into Electronic Communications, once I graduate from NC State University. So, I do have some knowledge on networks and things of that nature. :)

Was an Alltell customer and had great coverage anywhere in Person County and any place I traveled in NC and Virginia except for an area about 10 miles out NC 49 south of Roxboro until I get near Graham. Since Verizon took over Alltell, I have very spotty coverage. Dropping calls from Roxboro to Durham in the Rougemont area. One bar in the Country Club area if I stand perfectly still and I am outside. No coverage if inside my home in the Chub Lake community. Verizon said to switch phones so I purchased a new phone and service did not improve. Then I was told that the problem was that I was still on Alltell towers, and was switched to Verizon towers, coverage got worse. I am willing to take the loss on my contracts to switch carriers to get a carrier that can provide good service again. "Can you hear me now?" must have been because he had tried to call from the Roxboro area using Verizon. Have now seen the coverage problems maps of Verizon and wish I had seen them before my cell phone contracts were renewed.
