I used to have great service out in St. James, but now my phone is constantly displaying "extended network", and when a call actually comes in, my phone is "roaming". Same when I try to call out. And of course, that means now I'm subject to roaming charges. Thank goodness I'm past my two years of servitude. I'm definitely looking for a new provider, but from the comments below, it will be tough to find one that keeps me from going from the frying pan and into the fire.

Ordered Evo 4G Shift online from Sprint, had it next-day shipped. Roaming inside and outside home, occasionally a 1 bar flicker of signal but usually roaming or 0 bars. Drove around Southport to test signal, varied between roaming and 0-1 bars of Sprint service (could not pick up 3G data signal at all). Called to cancel service and the call to tech support dropped on my end. Called again, tech support had me update profile, firmware, etc. No change, still roaming inside and outside house. Canceling tomorrow after only having account with Sprint for 3 hours. The worst experience I've ever had with any service provider company (even counting the abysmal Time Warner Cable, which is some feat). DO NOT sign up for Sprint if you live in the Southport area.

So I've read all these complaints about how everyone misses their Alltel service... . I actually miss Verizon before the merger... in deciding which towers to keep in this area Verizon has apparently messed up ALL the towers. I never had problems with my Verizon service prior to the merger but I've now complained so much about the poor reception that Verizon has agreed to let me out of my contract. I drive around Brunswick County daily with work and I may have phone service 30% of the time with Verizon now.

Regarding reception, all phones are not created equal. My reception was poor with the Motorola brand, using the same carrier, but LG has been quite good and had a lower initial purchase price. Customer service has not been bad considering US Cellular uses contractors (excuse me, authorized agents) in our area but I am not in love with US Cell's rates. I will be taking a serious look at AT&T when my contract expires.
