Strangely Verizon seems to have bad to no 3G coverage in downtown Wilmington NC, but excellent in the surrounding area despite what coverage maps indicate. West of about 16th street data is almost unusable. Seems very odd. Voice remains OK but with a Droid thats like cutting off a leg.

I switched from Alltel to Sprint because they had better phones and better wireless web services. Alltel had better reception by far. Service is poor for spring on River Rd. and on 421 North just out of town. Sprint seems best when on major highways and in the city. Alltel seemed to pick up signals everywhere almost. I plan to switch back to Alltel when my contract is up.

Really never had a problem with us cellular service. If you just want a cell phone then this service is quite good. Moving to att / verizon or Sprint here shortly to pickup internet. Looks like Verizon is a bit spotty so I might go with att.

Sprint works fine all over town, even on long trips. It just sucks in my house. I have to walk outside most of the time and I get random voicemail when it feels like it.

I am surprised to hear such good reviews of Verizon. I constantly drop calls in my house and certain points on campus, and in general I have a hard time hearing the other person because of my reception. Maybe it's just my phone, though, who knows.

I normally get good reception around most of Wilmington. Around my apartment, however, my signal will suddenly disappear if i'm on the phone more than 10 minutes or so... sometimes. I might just be in the crosshairs of some signal congestion or something though. I would definitely recommend Cingular for anyone using around the UNCW area and i've never had any problems anwywhere else in Wilmington.

I recently switched from Suncom to Alltel because I coudn't get any reception in my house. Friends with Cingular and Verizon coudn't get service there either. With Alltel my reception is great!

There is a tower within a stone's throw of this location. I constantly get 4 bars (full reception) from my apartment. Great location for Sprint although reception inside Independance Mall somewhat nearby isn't the best. But that's to be expected in that type of situation. You should get great Sprint service throughout Wilmington. The only small hole might be at the intersection of 74 / 76 and 421 right when you come over the bridge into town. For some reason you hit a dead spot for about a block or two.
