i have AT&T and when am at home I now have to bars.and when I am on the phone the call comes in and out. but I have a Alltel tower near my house so am going to good with Alltel because they have the best coverage area in north carolina.but AT&T when they say roaming is free yes it is but I do not want my phone to be roaming I want it to be in the coverage area. but the more I go up germoton road the bars go up to 4bars but the sec I go into stokes county where I have family ther is no coverage at all not even one bar. so at the end of this mouth am making a charge to Alltel [soon to be Verizon wireleess]

Comment Edit - on second thought Alltel is the strong carrier in Winston. I would love to switch but can only sign up with ATT,VZW,Sprint, or TMobile through work. Depending on how soon VZW will be able to use Alltel towers after the acquisition, I may just go to them. With Alltel towers, Verizon would become the leader in the Carolinas hands down.

Lived in Aspen Park for many years, generally get good service when driving around town and very strong signals in Raleigh. Commute to Greensboro daily and there are a few deadspots on 40E to Greensboro. Anyway, cannot keep a signal in second story condo to save my life, stepping outside doesn't necessarily help. Girlfriend is going to kill me after all the missed and dropped calls. Tempted to try SunCom, sounds like W-S may be one of their last strong cities. No carrier rules in W-S. I've had several roommates with different service and the only one that had me beat was a SunCom customer, but that was 4 years ago when they had a better reputation.

With Cingular, poor reception at my house - have to find a spot and hold still. I commute to High Point on 311 and will drop calls at least 3, somtimes 10 times along the drive. Definitely switching at contract end. BTW, when I moved here, had T-Mobile. They charged me for mobile-to-mobile because of roaming to the tune of $2K, so I switched to Cingular.

Average reception, had to resort to a cell and data repeater at work. Cingular towers are rare most of cell network for Cingular devices are going through Suncom towers. Cingular changed to 10 digit dialing about three weeks ago and said nothing to anybody!

I hate to live here. no predictable weather. no cellphone company wants to improve quality here. state govt. supports stupid suncom. supports tobbaco company. and no good place to visit - if u talk about blue ridge parkway - it sux... no maintenance - broken parkway all along its NC route. My advice LEAVE NORTH CAROLINA.

I have not been able to pickup a Cingular tower for at least a month. Cingular started charging me for Roaming as well as Inbound Peak. I am on free inbound and have been for more than 5 years. It's not cheap but I have not switched because inbound was 24 / 7 free. Now I can't use my phone at all. Cingular has NO service and NO customer service here as far as I can tell.

Had AT&T, got switched to Suncom, suddenly couldn't make or receive calls, even up and down business 40 to Greensboro... but that was my fault. Most of the time, Suncom spent 15-20 mins trying to figure out if I was even a customer, then would mysteriously hang up when we got to what problems I was having with service. Worst I've ever experienced. Phone magically stopped connecting to networks for a week when they began insisting that I buy a new one so I switched to Cingular over a month ago. Old phone magically works again, new service is great so far, like the old service that I always enjoyed with AT&T.
