After doing some research I have found the reason for the drop in service. Sprint Addresses Native Coverage Loss Written by Humberto Saabedra on January 21, 2011 Alltel, Sprint In a new recently posted support page, Sprint has addressed the native coverage loss in areas of North Dakota, Wyoming and Montana as a result of the divested former Alltel markets being purchased by AT&T and subsequently converted. As a result of the change, what was once native voice and data coverage is now roaming coverage and subject to Sprint’s roaming rules limiting voice to 800 minutes and data to 300MB, with the change severly affecting those customers currently under contract and living in those areas.

Has anyone notices that since May 6th 2011 you can no longer get Sprint service west of Jamestown ND? I have had Sprint for 10 years and lived in Grand Forks and Fargo but married a girl who is from the western part of the state. During that time we used to lose our coverage west of Jamestown and then one day it worked all the way across the state. When I went to the Fargo Sprint store to ask them about it they indicated it had something to do with the merger with Nextel and that nothing was official. For 5 years we enjoyed service in Bismarck when visiting people and now all of the sudden our coverage is gone. They never printed a map with that coverage on it but we do miss it. I hope it is restored soon.

Although Sprint only covers Fargo and Grand Forks (Eastern side of the state); I get excellent reception here bouncing off other towers. Sprint exceedingly impresses me as I get no roaming fees, no data roaming fees, and very competitive rates. I've been with Sprint for 10 years now and have lived in Bismarck for 4 years and still would not give up Sprint--even though I have a Fargo phone number.
