For living twenty miles out in the country I seem to get pretty good service. But you would get better serivce with a smartphone this far out in the country.

Alltel has rather good reception in the town of Albion (there is a tower just outside of town), from 2-5 bars, depending upon where you are. Obviously, you have to be the right place in a building (like near a window on the tower side) if you want to get much signal indoors. The reception is also pretty good outside of Albion in the rural areas. The key is being on a hill with a straight shot in the right direction to the tower. I live about 15 miles northeast of town and can get up to 3 bars (once in a while even 4), even inside the house if I am in the right place. It is hard to maintain a call when on the road because you go up and down the hills. If you are in a lower place, you will get next to no reception. I understand that there is also a tower in Lyndsay, NE (east of Albion), which is probably where my signal comes from. Furthermore, Alltel is scheduled to put up a tower just north of Petersburg (north of Albion) in Dec. 2008. The Radio Shack in Albion is an Alltel dealer. We also had a Sprint phone briefly when we moved here. It gets a few bars in Albion and sometimes a bar or two in the country. However, it is on roaming.

Others seem to have reception here. Not sure if its my phone or provider. Phone seems to work OK when I am a lot of other places.
