I agree that AT&T has a serious DEAD ZONE in SE Nebraska in general. I moved to Lincoln from NE Kansas, and haven't been able to use my phone with AT&T service at ALL! I changed to Verizon and had much better reception, but have heard that Sprint is the way to go in my area. I will check back with what I discover!

Went to a party last night 45 miles south of Lincoln. No signal yet everyone around me was yacking on their phones. I think ATT has more dead zones than living ones.

I had an iPhone 2g for 3 years with 0~2 bars (2nd floor of house) and just got a iPhone 4 yesterday. Better reception was hoped for but it is still 1 bar or no reception at all even when on 2nd floor. While waiting for new phone to arrive I used my old Samsung 3g flip phone and was able to get 3g alternating with edge throughout the whole house. I-phones are not good in low signal areas--which includes too much of Lincoln!

Just ported out my Sprint number to Consumer Cellular (no contract) which uses AT and T towers- can't make a call in my home, and barely get one to two bars reception in my drive way. When I called Consumer Cellular, they said their info shows that I am in the "best area" for reception- ha! Obviously, I'll be cancelling the plan and sending the phone back. Sprint says that I'll have to sign up for a new contract now that I ported the number out- even though I have an old phone that was no longer on a contract. I disliked the contract and billing problems with Sprint, but coverage was never an issue.

I have had no problems with low signals in Lincoln. Especially in East Lincoln, I have had consistantly 5 bars from between 84th and 56th, Pine Lake through O. I highly recommend them in Lincoln.

This, in my opinion, is the worst hole in Lincoln for all cell carriers. Most CDMA networks like Alltel, Verizon, and Sprint can make and take calls fine... but anything GSM, like me on Cingular is completely screwed. I live right on this intersection and I can't get signal in my house, BARELY in my driveway. Infuriating. Also, about a half mile in any direction is terrible with one or no bars until about A St.going north, or Hwy. 2 going south.

Many areas have 4-5 bars (out of 5) in downtown, then gets spotty in north. In south area and many residential areas between streets listed, reception is spotty with numerous dead zones. Around hospital between 10th and 19th South St. are major dead spots, including my entire house.

Can't hardly make a phone call from my residence. I get no reception in the Near South area of Lincoln. Thought it was my older motorola, not so. Bought a new Nokia 3220, same result, very poor reception. I get great reception when travelling to larger cities. I call from Miama back to Lincoln and it's like right next door. Trying to call my office or spouse from my house or near South is a toss up. Can't depend on it at all.

As far as I can tell, the only way you will get good reception with Cingular is to sit in the middle of the interstate and make your calls. It SUCKS in Lincoln. The "More bars in more places" blather is a complete joke! I get beyond crappy reception at home (48th and Vine area). It's slightly better at work (N Lincoln... but again, that's nearer to the interstate. It also seems to be somewhat better when out of town (South Central Nebraska or SW Iowa) than when I'm in Lincoln, so if I move out of town, I'm golden. I was a switchover from ATT. I'm trying to figure out how combining ATT and Cingular made it so much worse. When my contract is up, I'm done. A cup and a string would have to be better.

We were happy AT&T customers until Cingular took over. Since then the reception and service has become worse. Cingular claimed it was because we were still on AT&T system, so we changed to their phones. It got worse, so we changed back to our old AT&T phones. The reception continues to get worse, drops calls all the time, voice mail doesn't come through until 2-3 hours later. Our contract is over, but we can't find anything better. According to all the other comments entered here, none of the other cell phone carriers are any better. Maybe we should just get a couple cans with a string.

Can not use in home. New cell phone technology makes Cingular look appealing, but their outdated GSM signal is a joke. If people are wondering why they can't roam, it is because everyone else uses CDMA (newer, stronger). It was one thing to get horrible reception everywhere, but their customer service was worse. Made 3 requests to have a manager call me back and never happened. The 3rd call a lady raised her voice and chewed me out. The Cingular rep blamed my phone, so I got a different one. Still sucks. Don't get sucked into the appealing phones because it isn't worth it. Only give 3 day trial if you want to avoid the activation fee... . WHAT A JOKE. If they didn't sell the Razr they would be out of business.

Dropped calls, poor reception when making a call. going on since I got Cingular coverage in May 2005. Had Sprint before and changed only because Sprint had such lousy Bluetooth phones. Switched to Cingular to use with my Uconnect system in car and have gone through 3 phones because Cingular kept saying it must be the phone, not their coverage. Well, I'm on the 3rd phone and nothing has gotten better. Only on a year contract and you can bet I will change back to Sprint at the end unless I get frustrated enough to pay the cancellation fee and chaulk it up to experience... live and learn!

We are a pre-merger AT&T customer, with poor reception at home and at work with the AT&T stamped phone which got WORSE after the merger. After repeated calls to customer service we were told that the older ATT phones didn't properly talk to the towers on both networks. So, we agreed to try an equivalent model Cingular phone, to "improve" reception. However, it has been no better with these phones; I regularly have 1 or 0 bars while in my office; my husband walks frequently between different buildings and reports that while the phone never actually gives him a "no service beep", he will still drop calls, or be unable to recieve or iniate a new call or message. This seems to be an issue in this area of south east Lincoln; farther south along Hwy. 2, or north of O street and farther signal strength is excellent and call quality is acceptable. We live near 10th and A street, and have very similar problems in our house. It is unacceptable to me, to have to be careful how I sit on the couch in the middle of the house, to make sure I don't drop my call... . the best signal in our very small, 100 yr old wooden house is 3 bars, near the window. Cingular has no options or explanations.

Not bad reception, cell tower located soutwest of the zoo. 27th street South is spotty, notiably worse towards South street, then get really good the farther south you go. there are plenty of towers south of hwy 2 where the newer part of lincoln is. It sucks that midtown people get bad reception sometimes. But for the most part I've been happy with Cingular in Lincoln.
