I never, ever, ever get less than maximum bars while in this area or while downtown. Lincoln seems pretty well supersaturated with digital Alltel towers. I do a lot of stormchasing (which takes me all over the state), and honestly, the only carrier that comes close to matching Alltel's coverage is Verizon. And that's because Verizon and Alltel share towers.

Can't hardly make a phone call from my residence. I get no reception in the Near South area of Lincoln. Thought it was my older motorola, not so. Bought a new Nokia 3220, same result, very poor reception. I get great reception when travelling to larger cities. I call from Miama back to Lincoln and it's like right next door. Trying to call my office or spouse from my house or near South is a toss up. Can't depend on it at all.

It's pretty good here, even in the dorms. Though walking throught the middle of campus can cause some problems because of all the wireless networking but calls are still pretty clear.

As far as I can tell, the only way you will get good reception with Cingular is to sit in the middle of the interstate and make your calls. It SUCKS in Lincoln. The "More bars in more places" blather is a complete joke! I get beyond crappy reception at home (48th and Vine area). It's slightly better at work (N Lincoln... but again, that's nearer to the interstate. It also seems to be somewhat better when out of town (South Central Nebraska or SW Iowa) than when I'm in Lincoln, so if I move out of town, I'm golden. I was a switchover from ATT. I'm trying to figure out how combining ATT and Cingular made it so much worse. When my contract is up, I'm done. A cup and a string would have to be better.

We were happy AT&T customers until Cingular took over. Since then the reception and service has become worse. Cingular claimed it was because we were still on AT&T system, so we changed to their phones. It got worse, so we changed back to our old AT&T phones. The reception continues to get worse, drops calls all the time, voice mail doesn't come through until 2-3 hours later. Our contract is over, but we can't find anything better. According to all the other comments entered here, none of the other cell phone carriers are any better. Maybe we should just get a couple cans with a string.
