This is the worst service I have ever had. I would be better off using a shortwave radio. I have not been able to complete a phone call in over a year while sitting in my home. It may take two minutes, it may take ten - but your call WILL get dropped. My wife has an iPhone 3G as well, and has the same problems. We are selling our phones, and switching to another carrier due to the terrible network.
I live out west (156th and Center). Coverage downtown with the iPhone is usually pretty good. Coverage at home and west of that is terrible. Little-no coverage at 168th and on west towards heading out of town. AT&T map says there is a tower by our place and we are just out of range of it. If I'm in the basement, I cannot get signal. Upstairs, I occasionally do but sometimes get dropped calls as well.
I live at 104th and Center about 6 blocks south of Center Verizon service is terrible in this area and they have acknowledged that they can not guarantee coverage so beware!
I spent a week trying to resolve the issue with Sprint and my cell phone. Cox told me it could be that my phone was listed in the 402 area code but not in Omaha. Turned out to be true, but Sprint denied that could be the case. I spoke with Joseph, Cesar, Loren, etc. at the main Sprint number, several people at the 114th Dodge location and people at the 90th Fort location. Sprint kept my phone and when it was returned it worked for a couple of days, then nothing. Took it back and the battery was dead and the port to recharge was also broken. These things were fine when I dropped the phone off. The phone is old but had been working fine. Strange timing. I have discarded my phone and will be looking for new service. I asked for comment cards regarding customer service and was told those had to come from the company and were done by phone and no comment cards were available. One person was willing to help if I extended my contract for two years. I can't consider extending a contract with the poor service and people who can not be trusted.
I just posted about my crappy T-Mobile service and realized that my pc put in 2000 as the year, the year is actually 2009. This is all current as of 10 / 03 / 2009 so do not get TMOBILE! Dan the supervisor said that he is honoring the statements that Daniel gave me just 2 days before, and that Daniel will be coached because he gave me incorrect information. I have a co-worker who moved from KC (where T-Mobile has coverage) to Omaha, it took him 3 months of documenting dropped calls before he could get out of his contract. Be leary of ever signing a contract with them. T-Mobile sold pre-paid phones at Best Buy and Walmart before the better business bureau cracked down on them. When people went to activate them, they realized that their area codes would be 816 or some other long distant number. They will lie to hold you responsible for a contract!
DO NOT GET TMOBILE! I paid for this service for 3 years before I finally realized that I should not be paying for 30% service and was willing to fight for my rights. I ordered my phones online, when I went to port my numbers, I was told that T-Mobile didn't have service here and I could get an 816 or 512 area code. I asked when they would have 402 area codes and they said soon as they were constantly improving their coverage. I accepted and starting using my phones mostly around our house. After the 14 day trial I thought that the coverage was pretty good and kept it. Well I hadn't tried the phones all over Omaha. Once I went west of 120th. Street, I found that I was lucky to get 1 bar if any. Most of the time my phones had no service and to get back into an area of service, I would have to travel for 10 or 15 minutes before it would come back on, even if I hit an area that it normally had service. I could do a hard reset, or try to manually pick a carrier (something T-Mobile will tell you to try) and would still have to wait forever. Finally I decided that paying $177 a month to have 3 lines of home phone service was enough. The only place I could guarantee service was at my house, but go 2 blocks away and I have none. I have tried trouble shooting with tech support and they say that they will put in a request to fix my reception problems, 1 time out of 6 or 7 I actually got 1 bar at work for a week! After the week was up, I got occasional 1 or not bars like normal. I finally gave up after tech support told me that I needed to call customer care because they couldn't fix the problem. I called customer care on Thursday October 2, 2000 and after he looked at my account and all of the trouble calls and emails that I had gone through, he told me that I was able to get out of my contract because I only had 1-2 bars which is considered poor service in most areas of Omaha. He told me he could cancel it right than. I told him no, because I didn't have other service yet. He told me to call when ready and gave me his id number. I called 2 days later and was told that I would have to pay an early termination fee even after I gave her "Daniel's" employee id number. I asked to speak to a supervisor as she "Bridget" told me to find someone to take over my shitty service, because she could not honor their reps commintment! The supervisor realized that "their" rep was in error for telling me that, and thus I started a new contract with sprint, so they would need to honor their agreement. I have his ID number as well and will be posting it if they try to bill me after today. I can't wait to get Sprint and have local phone numbers with actual service in Omaha with more features. Also check out wirefly.com! They have awesome prices on phones for any company, that's where I am getting my blackberry 8330 from Sprint for free! Don't believe T-Mobile telling you that they have towers in Omaha, they are piggy backing on AT&T and don't have reception at all! But customer service (as of 10 / 02 / 2000) swears that they have their own towers right next to my house (no 402 area codes, but Bridget swears they have towers) so I should have 3 or 4 bars according to the coverage map! Wow, I have to pay for service according to a computer coverage map! Ask for a supervisor when dealing with TMOBILE or they will screw you! Good luck if you have them, stay away from them if you don't !
T-Mobile claims to have service here but they do not. Their coverage map shows decent coverage in omaha but in reality they only have service on interstates and major highways (Dodge / maple / center streets) and they use AT&T's network for it. They won't roam anywhere off the major roads. TERRIBLE. And they also do not have local phone numbers. If you buy a prepaid phone from Walmart or somewhere it gives you an area code from Virgin islands or some weird place.
I really wanted my Us cellular phone to work for me at work, but I have come to realize it just doesn't. When I walk down the hallway on the 3rd floor I can hear it chiming that I am entering a service area. When I look at the phone - no bars! Not good when you miss an emergency phone call and your kids have to call a neighbor. That makes you look bad for life! You can't even leave a voicemail, and if you are lucky enough to leave a vm, I can't listen to it because 'no service'. I just may go without a cell phone and forget about it for a year or two. Very discontent in Omaha.
