23rd Floor Apartment has little to no cell reception. Used to live next door on 10th floor and had the same problem. My phone won't even ring and calls go right to voicemail. Had to get a VOIP to be able to make and receive calls while at home. Works fine outside.

I stay near Hamilton park on the 2nd floor. If the phone is near the window, I see the bars fluctuating from 1 to 3. If I move to my kitchen, I get nothing. Even when sitting near the window, call quality is extremely poor. Sometimes when I call friends when I am walking outside, I see 5 bars, but it is difficult to make out what they are saying, as if the signal is compressed beyond recognition. I plan to sell my phone, break the contract and switch to Sprint or Verizon.

I have had this phone for a few days and it is working fairly well so far. I believe metropcs has made a deal to use Verizon and Sprint towers. I used to have verzion and the service is almost identical.

I can't use my phone in my own home. Calls are patchy, and dropped on CONSTANT basis. Almost every call is dropped, people can't hear me on the other end. All I can use it for is txt and email, useless as a phone... .calls are dropped in the middle of Manhattan, too.l I rely on this phone to find a job and this horrible service already cost me several interviews. I have been AT&T client for 7 years, and services progressively got worse, while fees just got higher. I called and of course got "no problems in the area" response after 30 minutes on the phone second week in the row. AT&T lies make me so angry! If AT&T wants me to pay my bills on time, it should be in its best interest to fix these issues for me, so I can interview and get employed. MY unemployment directly affects AT&T, yet AT&T is telling me to buy some sort of attachment, or charge me a fee for leaving, while being responsible for sh*tty service. AAAAAGH!

I've read the other comments and have to agree. It's utterly ridiculous how bad AT&T service is in the Jersey City area... at least along the water. I don't know if it's only an iPhone problem or not, but just having moved up here I can only say I'm severely disappointed. Not being a New Yorker, you certainly here a lot of bad press about the poor service on the iPhone in Manhattan, but working in Manhattan and living in Jersey City, it's not even comparable... Jersey City is seriously terrible. I love the iPhone but may have to leave it for a different service. The iPhone can be a great gadget, but if ou can't use it as a cell phone what's the point. At times I can talk to someone where I have full 3G service and will instantly lose their call, then it jumps back to full service. A 5 minute call can honestly drop 4 times... pointless!

Short version: Do not get the iPhone in JC- AT&T service renders it useless. Get a iPod touch if you really like the iPhone and stick with Verizon. AT&T is the worst service ever. Period. Long version: I've been with all the major carriers and AT&T is by far the worst connection ever. I switched from Verizon to AT&T for the iPhone. Biggest mistake ever. It is not worth the iPhone. The service is so unreliable and spotty in JC. When it works, it is flat out amazing. Problem is that it rarely works. So 90% of the time in JC you end up with a iPod Touch with a $80 / month fee. The other 10% of the time it works. At work in NYC, the service is improved, but again, the connection is spotty and unreliable at work. AT&T and the iPhone have changed my life- I've gotten yelled at by bosses because calls didn't get through, gotten yelled at by the gf because calls didn't get through, missed out on hanging out with friends because calls didn't get through. And I pay $80 / month for a iPod touch. Life-changing. My recommendation to you is to AVOID AT&T, even at the cost of not getting an iPhone. If you want a iPhone, hope that Apple releases a Verizon version this June. Or stick with an Android phone on Verizon and get a iPod touch. Really. I will wait until June this year and the second the WWDC announcement for the new iPhone finishes, I will CANCEL my AT&T service and sign up with Verizon where one of two things will happen: 1) I will buy a iPhone OR 2) I will buy a Nexus One, HTC incredible, or whatever latest Android handset is available. 3 more months of a iPod touch with a $80 / month fee.

Virtually no coverage at all and if I have a call it drops. When I call AT&T all I am fed are lies. When you speak with any customer service representative or a manager the story why there is no coverage changes each time. I was even told one spring that it was the blooming trees that was creating the problems. The fact is that there are not enough cell towers or enough digital packets for the area. In addition, AT&T does not allow anyone to speak with upper management to discuss these issues and calls to the FCC have resulted in zero being done.

Absolutely terrible service. No data and constant dropped calls. I don't even bother answering my phone when I'm in lower jersey city. If I do I'm guaranteed a dropped call withing 10 seconds.
