I have been with AllTel in ABQ for 8.5 years and have been relatively happy. Coverage and service around the metro area has been excellent. Also, cell coverage and service in Las Vegas, NV, Wash., DC, NY, NY, Philadelphia, PA, Salt Lake City, UT, throughout California, Arizona and everywhere else I've been in the continental USA has been GREAT. My current 2-year contract with AllTel is close to expiring and I was looking at carrier / service incentives, considering switching to a another carrier who might have more aggressive incentives. However, after reviewing this Website and seeing the comments on other carriers, I'm now very seriously considering staying with AllTel because of their better cell coverage, inter-carrier roaming agreements and overall service quality.
Have lots of dropped calls anywhere West of the River. May have full singal and then poof gone. The claim it is due to the towers at Central and Paseo Los Valcons. I believe they have terrible coverage for ABQ area. The phones in Tucson and back in VA are working without a problem. Sprint Needs to upgrade their network here in ABQ.
I used to live in Texas and while out there, I never once had a call drop or a signal disapear on me. Now in Albuquerque, I have the signal fade every couple of minutes, and I go into roaming just by walking outside on my patio. I used to be a truly happy Sprint customer, but now I'm questioning whether or not Sprint phones are worth it. I called the customer service and they explained that albuquerque sits on the very edge of the service area. I think they're just too lazy to build more towers.
I have been with the various companies that are currently Alltel since 1991 so I am not complaining about Alltel which has served me at home and in various cities in the Southwest extremely well. Please take this note only to comment on the seemingly permentant dead sport at the location I have listed above.
Had Sprint for 2 years, and service was adequate in Albuquerque, but almost nonexistant outside of cities, and roaming wasn't included free (69 cents a minute). Switched to Verizon, and have been very impressed, phone works just about everywhere, and no raoming fees, plus I was able to go with a cheaper plan because most people I talk to are already on Verizon, and I get unlimited mobile to mobile to other Verizon customers. I travel a lot, and could only use my Sprint phone in very limited areas, which made it almost useless at times. Though I rarely got dropped calls at home with Sprint, my reception was 3 bars max, with Verizon, it is always very strong. Verzizon has better customer service, customer web site, and seems overall to be much more professional. When I switched, Sprint started offering roaming (as a $5 a month option), but beware that this is limited to no more than 50% of overall minutes used, and they can terminate service if you exceed this. Had to read the fine print very closely for this. Have been a Verizon customer for 3 months now, and no major complaints. They aren't the cheapest, but you get what you pay for.
I'm going to pay to get out of my Cingular contract, hopefully not the full amount, as they've given me a Samsung and a Nokia to try, and all three have horroble reception in my house. As I drive around with my RAZR, I'm constantly repeating myself to people as the calls are so broken up. I don't think Cingular and Albuquerque are ready for eachother.
Forget about it in Ventana Ranch. Dropped calls galore. Run around from Cingular 1 yr togo on contract and wont give me new phone either. Had problems with ATt but since the switchorver its horrendous. Poor reception in various areas also throughout ABQ. Don't know why they are opening up new store. You need to go to other sales locations to find out the real deal
