Very rarely can a call be established if you are east of Tramway Blvd. Would not recommend T-Mobile for anyone that lives in this area!!

Lots of missed / dropped calls, especially anywhere inside a building. I rarely get more than three bars anywhere in NE Albuquerque, and often less. Sprint coverage is basically non-existent outside Albuquerque except right on the interstates. Roaming coverage works ok but is heinously expensive. I am looking for a new provider.

All Over Albuquerque, Albuquerque, NM 87102 |
Wed Jun 01, 2005 |
My wife and I recently purchased two (brand new) Samsung E 315's and we both had horrible reception. We have been with T-Mobile for 6 years and have never had a problem with any other phones (Nokia, Samsung, Motorolla). The Samsung E 315 constantly drops calls, and it's almost impossible to have a conversation without repeating oneself. This was supposed to be a phone "upgrade"... so far, it has been one big headache. The people at T-Mobile are completely unwilling to solve this problem. Their only attempt to remedy this situation is to sell us a more expensive phone.

I drive all over Albuquerque all day and never drop calls. I do drop calls on I25 between Isleta and Las lunas at the same point almost all the time. I travel state wide and Verizon has been the best for me in NM.

Guaranteed poor to no receiption in this area, and has been so for the past 15 months of my contract (i.e. ball and chain). My Contract Agreement with SprintPCS was recently changed / extended with out my consent and I have been unable to find the department that can revert it back to the original date. Via phone, I have spoken to Customer Service, Trouble Specialist, Retention, Cancellation Departments. And in person, a manager at a local Sprint Store and no one had authorization to make this change. I have since been informed via email that while SprintPCS has placed notes to my account in an attempt to show their error, "that due to system restrictions, the previous agreement cannot be reinstated on the account." Beware!

Unser To Coors / I-40 / Petroglyph Ntnl Monument, Albuquerque, NM 87120 |

I can't use this phone west of Coors to save my life. Every call over 30 seconds gets dropped. I am looking for service that will work on the west side as this is very frustrating for me, I also have a T-Mobile sidekick and it's having issues as well. The sidekick server has not provided continuous service since early March 2005 (a month now of getting messages 1-4 days after they are sent). There is a spot on Coors between I-40 and Montano that kills calls also, it does it ever time. Grrr.

I had very few problems with my Sprint PCS service in Albuquerque. I don't always get a strong signal but very seldom has a call ever dropped. Unfortunately, service in the local Sprint stores isn't very good.

Lomas and Tramway, Albuquerque, NM 87123 |
Sat Mar 19, 2005 |
This is an update to my 8 / 5 / 2004 review below. I am now using both T-Mobile and VZW (work phone). VZW has put up 2 new towers on lower Tramway (at Menaul and at Lomas) so the reception issue east of Tramway south of Montgomery has been solved. I have also noticed T-Mobile is starting to have service issues it didn't have before... delayed voicemail and text messaging, the network has lost connection with the phone... I think they are having growing pains. VZW has also put up new towers on the West Side (Paradise Hills and Rte 550 near the casino) and will soon in south Rio Rancho, so most of its Albuquerque dead spots are fixed. I still like T-Mobile because it is a little cheaper and still pretty good, but now Verizon is equally good in Albuquerque. Combined with how much larger its network is, I would recommend Verizon Wireless as the best choice for most people.

I've been quite happy with T-Mobile's coverage. I've never had a dropped call, nor experienced a dead spot between Albuquerque and Santa Fe in over a year here.

T-Mobile seems to have the best coverage in the city of Albuquerque (meaning the fewest dead spots and / or fewest drops in signal quality).

Sprint really screwed me over. I got a plan I liked before moving here from the east coast. Before purchasing the plan, I told them I would be moving. They said that I would be able to change to a local number at no cost to me. When I arrived, they had changed their service plans. In order to get a local number, I would have to sign up for a new plan. That meant another one year minimum contract, a higher price, and a change to evening hours start. When your eveing hours start at 9 PM instead of 8 PM, it becomes too late to call the east coast and borderline too late for the midwest. Suddenly, my evening hours would be totally worthless to me. I was forced to choose between a number that was long distance to everyone here or the plan that I wanted. Sprint, you really suck.

Verizon is a great provider. I travel the whole state for work and pleasure. I can get reception in places that amaze me sometimes. Verizon may not be the most affordable plan but you get what you pay for!

Started new job near intersection. Calls are frequently dropped and often are treated as roaming even though I am close to I-25. No choice but to find new provider. Considering between Verizon (best coverage / solid reception) and T-Mobile (best phones / average coverage).

I get dropped calls ALL the time. Almost 1 / 2 or 1 / 3 of all my calls. Half the time there's no service: It is terrible! Don't sign up with Sprint. The other person rating Sprint good must be an employee because everyone knows Sprint sucks in Albuqueruqe.

I have been pleased with Nextel. Coverage and reliability are great. I have a free incoming call plan that saves me a bunch of money; Up to 800 mins incoming + around 200 out going each month, not including nights and weekends.

I have been a Verizon Wireless customer for about 5 years and overall have been very pleased with their reception. The only real trouble is that when I am east of Tramway it's not unusual for calls to drop. I don't believe that this has anything to do with Verizon though; reception for all carriers fades the closer you get to the mountain. however I don't have recent experience with other carriers. I am an outside sales person so I drive all over Albuquerque every day and go to Santa Fe on I-25 once per week. Dropped calls are rare regardless of location when I am west of Tramway. Verizon's customer service, when I've needed it, has also been top notch. I am reluctant to abandon such a fine company but am contemplating a move to T-Mobile in order to get a phone that Verizon doesn't support.
