Have cell modem for computer out at the ranch. Been messing with it for three months. Constant irritation.. Sitting in one spot, in a two minute period, it will go from four bars to one bar, to no signal, and switch between EVDO and 1xRTT a few times... . And the cell tower is straight line of sight from about two miles away, on the mountain top. Even on the rare occasions that I get a good, steady signal for a few minutes, my server latency (ping times) can average 11 seconds. Constant web page and email server time outs and other errors. Can take five minutes to download an email, and half an hour for a single web page that has a moderate number of ads and / or 'widgets' on it. And forget about multimedia. If you can keep the connection from getting dropped, it will take three hours to download a 10 MB youtube video. Lousy customer service too. They don't answer emails or website CSR forms, and if you telephone them, an hour on hold will get you a semi - competent Tech support guy... IF you are lucky. The frustrations of this are probably worse than not having the 'service ' at all.
