Have had AT&T for four years due to the desirability of the Iphone. My phone seldom worked in buildings and always dropped calls. I recently switch to a new carrier (still have an Iphone) and the difference is amazing. I waited to long to have a phone that actually works! Before I paid $120 dollars a month for a nice camera and ipod! I now have a phone that works with unlimited data and texting for less than I was paying AT&T for limited data and 200 messages. Please do not fool yourself I have stood in line at the AT&T store to complain only to be one of many whose phone did not work also standing in line. Nothing they could do to help me. The Iphone is great - AT&T really should not exist as a cellular provider.

Both phones work OK in town, but I have to get in the car and drive to get reception here usually.

Even the College tells new students there is no AT&T reception on campus, or in town for that matter. An early post here (2009) says the Santa Fe residents / government oppose new cell phone towers. The towers map would seem to support this as virtually no towers on the old town side, unfortunately that's where the Capital buildings and tourist locals are found. Would be nice to know if the blame for lousy cell reception is with AT&T for not placing towers or Santa Fe for not allowing towers. Somebody should get this fixed, but it appears to be ongoing for years now, so probably won't happen.

Years ago I switched from Verizon to T-Mobil because of all the dropped calls; delayed voicemails, and terrible customer service. My T-Mobil reception is generally good to fair in town, even in the neighborhood where I'm located, except for the street I'm on apparently, because even when I'm outside the house, I only get 2 bars. Inside, I get 1 bar; 2 if I'm lucky. Never had anything higher except when on analog yrs ago. I'm nervous about the upcoming possible / likely merger with AT and T since that company has such bad service here! I put 87507 as my zip (since it is), but this form says it's not valid, so I'm trying a different one..

bought my i-phone last Friday Aug 27 -- ready to return it after trying to get a signal (service) all weekend. ATT is at fault but why didn't Apple alert me to the fact that I would have no service in Santa Fe? I bought the iPhone based on the ATT service map on their website. I believe this to be false advertising. Why am I not surprised at ATT -- but Apple? I am a big Apple supporter: 3 computers and an iPad plus I own stock in the company -- very disappointed guy here

Glad you vented here. That was truly helpful and productive. I, for one, feel so much better. As it happens, people have spoken. AT&T held a meeting here in town last month. The plan is to upgrade existing towers to 3G by 2011 and then fill in the 'black holes' by adding new towers by the end of 2012. That's not soon enough for me, so I just got proactive, unlocked my iPhone and moved to T-Mobile. No 3G for AT&T iPhones at T-Mobile, but five bars on Edge is a hell of a lot better than nothin'.

AT&T held a town hall style gathering in Santa Fe last evening. The result is that we will not see 3G service until some time in early 2011 (meaning maybe by December 2011) and they will not commit to installing new transmitters to cover the huge gap in coverage until 2012.

I just called the AT&T office for (yet another) update on 3g implementation in Santa Fe. As before, they are saying within the next 6 months (before the end of the year) there will be "significant upgrades in the Santa Fe network coverage including 3g service." This is the story I heard when I bought my iPhone nearly 2 years ago and the same story when I called them about a year ago. I'm officially giving up on AT&T. As other users have mentioned, coverage in the area is spotty and the Edge network is painfully slow. This coupled with the fact that AT&T is metering data usage now (the tiered data plans), yet is charging $20 / month for tethering means I'll be ditching my beloved iPhone for a Droid. Oh well. Thanks for nothing AT&T.
