Unfortunately I was persuaded by friends to change my carrier from Alltel to Verizon because of their "In" program. Big mistake. As soon as my contract is up on 11-06, I will be going back to Alltel, with whom I had great reception and no dropped calls. Problems: very poor to almost no reception, with many times "No Service" showing on screen; others with Verizon have trouble here also; many dropped calls; delayed messages; if weather is bad, there is no service whatsoever. Granted, some of these problems may be attributed to the mountainous region here, but if you are a company that is going to "provide" service, get the towers up! Grrr... .
I have to admit that Verizon wireless service in Silver City has improved tremendously over the past 3 years. I remember when I first moved to Silver from El Paso,Tx in early 2000, the reception was horrible. (At that time Verizon was GTE wireless) I could hardly use my cell phone in Silver City, most of the time my cell would only read 1 to 2 bars of strength. All of a sudden in 2003, the service in Silver City improved. I have to admit this though, there are certain parts of Grant County that are not covered all that well. Bayard and Hurley are still poor reception areas, maybe Verizon should add another tower to Grant County!
I can't get any reception at all in Silver city, NM. Nextel provider said that Nextel is nation wide so I should be getting reception but I haven't gotten any at all.
