I have lived in Socorro for 9 years and used a dozen different phones all around town and surrounding areas. Verizon was good to begin with and has gotten better. Two years ago we dropped our land line because Verizon was reliable enough to replace it. I am looking to drop Verizon to save money, but I need to research carefully because their reception (and their customer service) is excellent.

Our reception varries from no reception to 3 bars ocasionally when you really want to use it. seems like thats when it dont work. Calls sometimes go to voice mail without ever ringing and give you an alert 2 or 3 hours later.

After using iphone on ATT for years, mainly from central New Mexico at Socorro, I finally dropped them. I realized that ATT was never going to spend any money on New Mexico. I now use a Verizon MiFi with my iPad. Getting 5 bars in the boonies of NM, even miles from the Interstate. Not quite so good in ABQ where I have competing subscribers. Speed test on my iPad with MiFi often hits as much as my home DSL with Qwest [another sore point]. I sometimes use the free Whistlephone app on my iPad, but you must have a really solid 5 bars to use it.
