I was recently with Verizon and have heard the comments about Cingular / new AT&T and can say that surprisingly enough Alltel has by far the best signal here. A co-worker swears Alltel owns the cell tower here and is on the top of the tower so the signal goes further and is stronger. I'm not sure if that's true or it's just our phones, but I do know from my experience that my new Alltel phone has out-performed all others I have experience with around here. I'm usually on 4-5 bars out of 5 total bars on my phone all over the city. In some buildings it drops down to 3, especially if I'm on the bottom floor of a building sometimes, but rarely 2 unless I put it in my safe or refrigerator. But even then I can make a call and it sounds very good. I also like Alltel's plan. My Circle and unlimited calling to any 10 numbers is huge for me. But overall, I'm very happy with the service and would recommend it to others.

I get about 3 bars everywhere in elko except around walmart / mountain city area. I get NO service basically in spring creek--where I live. I have to go outside on my porch to use my phone in SC.

well, I got 3-5 bars, i.e. reception was just fine! However, the whole region is ROAM. I looked it up on the web, and indeed, the entire northeast corner of Nevada is UN-covered by Cingular - how annoying... .

Elko mostly has bout 5 bars but once you get onto highways it dramatically drops until you reach the nearest town but other then that they have good phones and cheap plans! Verizon round here roams a lot and there phones dont look good..
