Wow. I was disappointed because since I moved here a little over a month ago, I'd had like 2-3 dropped calls total. I make a LOT of calls, by the way. I was getting on this website to see what the best carrier in the area was. So far, after reading a few pages of reviews, there's NO WAY I'm switching from Alltel. I've been with them for years. I traveled the nation with a security company. I'd never had any dropped calls anywhere with Alltel until I moved out here. I've only had a couple and they were all in places that, I suppose, it should be expected. If you're having trouble with your cell, give Alltel a try. I was kinda hoping that ATT was good in Vegas because I want an iPhone. I guess I'll just have to settle for a blackberry.
Christmas Day, the most important day, Verizon desides to give me a "all circuits are busy" signal and the text messages / voice mails I tried to send out x-mas morning don't get received by friends until the next day. Not only that, I only have 1x of service at the house. Not only this, but carrying insurance got me a refurbished phone where I have to press the up button really hard to go up on my contacts list. Luckly, no longer on a contract and from this site, looks like Cingular has the most towers in the area. Although I had Cingular before, Cingular never gave me as many negatives (over positives) as Verizon has.
Reception bars are a complete lie.. AT&T has major problem with GSM network. Most locations in valley have the problem that signal strength is 5 bars with intermittent (about every 1-2 minutes) the strength goes to 0. Drops call when this happens. It is ironic that they have the nerve to advertise the fewest dropped calls.. Ran into the same experience in 84032 zip (Northern Utah). However, Manhatten coverage seems to be good. For Vegas, do yourself a favor and go with T-Mobile or Verizon
We have tried Sprint, Verizon, Nextel, and now Cingular here at the base of Frenchman Mountain... they all suck. My theory is that the mountain disrupts the signals, since there are at least 5 line of sight towers in the area. Cingular / AT&T seems to be the least of the 4 evils... they are just better at keeping a death grip on the call, so you end up with lots of dead air for periods, instead of outright hangups. If you look at your reception, it will bounce from 5 bars to 1 to 2 back to 5 back to 2 all day long... I'm not sure if a repeater would even help.
Can not make or recieve 95% of calls either indoors or out. Signal will not hold. Goes from 4 to 0 bars in seconds. Changing the phone to roam (which roams to Verizon) is no better. Sprint engineer verifed that the area does not have a dominate tower signal and problem will only be solved by a new tower closer in the area. Sprint executive support and engineer say nothing is planned to address this problem any time soon. AT&T / Cingular is the only carrier in the area to have a tower per engineer.
When I initially got Sprint (3 years ago) it had great service that I ended up renewing my contract. Since last year the service has sucked SO bad! My phone shows full bars almost all the time, however once I make / receive a call it gets dropped within a matter of seconds. This is with EVERY call, I have yet to make / receive a call within the past year without having it drop. Sprint has extremely poor service in this area, and for the issues I am having I am most likely going to cancel and just pay the cancellation fee because it definitely isn't worth it.
Been with AT&T for 20 yrs. Moved to Edna and Jones... bars go up and down like a stereo. AT&T service said "get a new phone!". Last 6 months: my original 6680 + (2)Nokia 6682, (1)Pearl and (1)BlackJack. Same thing. Dr.to L.A. get "Emergency Service Only" for about 40% of the trip. I typically use about 1800 mins / mo. nationwide. Outside Las Vegas... not as bad.
Came from Texas with Sprint. They let me out of my contract (6 months in) because they could not make it work. Switched to Cingular. It worked a little better for about a month then went to hell and is pretty much useless. So far 8 of my friends have gotten AT&T to allow them to cancel without termination fees. Apparently at least Sprint and AT&T know their service in Las Vegas is very spotted. Note: I dealt with both companies tech support and went thru their process to get my area (residence) checkout. Once they confirm it is bad they will drop you termination fee and allow you to switch
