The recption that I have been getting recently has been great, I use to only get 3bars in my house but now it stays maxed out at 5 bars, Cingular was doing work in my area for about a month, (looks like they added a new tower inthe area). I use to have the old AT&T service with the old AT&T gsm phone (service sucked so bad then!) when I switched to Cingular and replaced my phone service was much better, something about accessing the new band Cingular is using that helped improve my service, ( according to customer service rep ).All I know is that service has been improving ever since!

I have been with Cingular in this area for about 3years and I must say that the reception has improved every year. The coverge now in my apartment,( which happens to be in a pre war building, which is solid as they come)is great I get 5 bars through out my entire apartment. The reception in my area (Prospect Heights ) is pretty good, Im very happy with my service.

Overall, the reception is pretty good in the Flatbush area, even in the basement apartment I get close to perfect reception (my boyfriend's Cingular phone barely works). I haven't found any dead spots yet...

the reception is very poor indoors, my calls drop every couple of minutes. A two block radius around my apartment--the reception is also bad. My phone conversations are always breaking up.

Any calls sent or received from my basement is an experience in 'do it quick before it dies'. So very frustrating.

I've used every provider in the NYC are and Verizon is absolutely the most reliable service I've ever used. I still use Nextel as a company phone and it is the worst service.

I always get full bars but when I call people who have landlines, they complain about my voice skipping / breaking up. This means their whole "raising the bar" campaign is deceptive. To prove this, here's another experience. I was on 8ave and 39th st (Garment District / Manhattan), my phone read full bars. I couldn't make a phone call. Someone called me and got the voicemail. I had to use a shop's landline. Cingular's 850mhz is suppose to make it clearer but obviously it sucks.

Verizon is the only providor that works flowlessly near the water. My nieces Sprint drops calls after less than a minute and Cingular reception on the beach is terrible.

This phone is pre-historic so no bells and whistles, but reception, clarity, etc are almost too good to get rid of. No dropped calls either. I'm still high on Verizon.

Perfect reception even through very thick walls that other carriers have struggled to penetrate.

Constant dropped calls, garbled communication, frustration. It's a good thing they have such a cheap texting plan, because that's the only way I can communicate with the outside world. I've also used my Blackberry in my apartment, and service is slightly (but not significantly) improved. Reception near Columbia U / Morningside is similarly crappy. It seems ridiculous to me that New York, one of the biggest cities in the world, doesn't have decent coverage from one of the four major service providers. T-Mobile had better get serious about the United States (and hire better customer service people).

although I can always get some sort of reception inside my apartment, it can be frustratingly buzzy / staticky and occasionally drops to 0 bars for a brief second... dropping the call of course. the Cingular customer service philosophy is "if we make you wait long enough and press enough buttons, you might eventually just hang up." online billing system is screwy and is often "experiencing difficulties." I will also be "experiencing difficulties" when it comes to renewing my contract next month. not the very worst, but not recommended, either.

I had Verizon Wireless and would have to walk to back bedroom for any service in my apartment. Now with Cingular, the service is good throughout apartment. I have had Cingular for a month now and am thoroughly satisfied with the reception in the Park Slope area. Even in D'Agostino's, in the back of the store, (7th Ave and 6th street) the reception is great.

With T-mobile, I often get one bar until I actually need to make a call. I try and push the buttons real quick, but alas, the bars fade away before the call is made. Didn't have this problem back in May 2005... it's been gradual. T-Mobile said they were fixing towers in the area months ago but nothing has improved. My roommate has Verizon and doesn't seem to have problems.

Never had a problem with verizon... ever I can't say the same for t-mobile. after I pass park place and kingston walking towards E. Parkway, my calls would go silent... uhm... "can you hear me now?" So I switched to verizon. I really haven't had a problem anywhere in the 5 boroughs with them.

It goes from 4 bars to 0 in seconds and drops calls. Terrible. I also hear clicking sounds, echos, and can hear other people's calls. Go Nextel!
