Unlike the earlier poster's experience with AT&T, I have never had anything more than marginal reception in this area. I have used AT&T for over a decade, and it is as bad today as it was ten years ago. Dropped calls, no signal, and I'm talking indoors and out.

I've been an AT&T subscriber exclusively since my first cell phone in 1996. I don't even bother to renew my contract unless I'm interested in a new phone. I rarely have a problem with making calls, or with the quality of the calls for that matter. The quality has only gotten better as the technology of the phones advances. I am currently not using the GSM/GPRS equipment or services and see no need to at this time. I've heard that GSM dramatically limits coverage outside major areas and since I travel a lot for work I really need coverage rather than additional features. All in all, I'm a very satisfied AT&T customer.

Nextel in East Rockaway SUCKS! There is no reception anywhere around the area. Too many dropped calls, can't make a call and can't use the walkie-talkie feature.

nextel is always a good thing. i dont recieve a signal in my house, it works really good in nyc, queens and was only one with service in killington vermont on ski trip of 5 freinds from area.
79.00 a month is a heafty fee for unlimited service but you cant go wrong. better for families to stay in contact with kids or eachother, get right thru in case of emergency.

I get good reception all over the area. The worst spot is on the boardwalk in Long Beach where it can get a little tough to either get a ny reception or can drop a call easily. Otherwise, no real problems anywhere on Long Island.
