Switched from Verizon to AT&T for the Iphone 3G. My mistake, it went from flawless reception with Verizon to no reception with AT&T. Luckily I have 30 days to decide whether to keep AT&T or get a refund. I wouldn't recommend AT&T for anyone living in Queens.

Where ever I go I have perfect reception. Not 1 problem! Works in all the tunnels without fail. If you go up state NY, I know tmobile, cingular and Sprint loose service(friends have those phones) and they end up using my phone which has full signal. Hands down all other carriers might have new and funky phones but what good it is you can not use them. Cingular and T-Mobile are only goof if you travel out of the USA on a "Regular" basis however if you just go away for vacation stick with CDMA in the states. GSM service is only well developed in Europe and the ASIA's it is still well under-developed in the states. The bottom line is yes here and there all other carriers have service and nice and cute phones you still pay for service every month not here and there! If you are a regular phone user and are in the USA most of the time except for vacation here and there stick with Verizon you can not loose. Who ever tells you they are expensive have them check the rate card of all other carriers and have a look almost same price. Maybe a bit cheaper but they have to give you something with that service. I hope this helps.

Signal appears strong - 4 / 5 bars - but call quality is not always clear and call can drop if you move around.

I have to hang out my apt window to use phone at all and frequently get dropped calls. It was this way with AT&T and the Cingular merge made no difference. Seem to be blocked by hi rise buldings??

Good enough. Two to three bars inside my apartment. Voice quality is mediocre, with some crackling, but still very audible.
