I haven't need a landline in years, but now I'm stuck having to pay for a service. I can occasionally receive and make calls but usefull aweful quality and many get dropped, even if I walk outside. Verzion refused to let me out of my contract.

Been livin here for over 3 years and still have almost no reception. Sprint PCS was ok, only 1 bar most of the time but calls could be made. I switched to Verizon and forget it. Every call gets dropped or goes straight to voicemail. The new Get It Now feature, never works because the signal is never at EVDO quality. This is a heavily populated area with tons of shoppers. Whats the DEAL!???!

usually 0 to 2 bars at home; many dropped calls; fuzzy reception otherwise. Verizon is not a choice for this area.

AT&T TDMA: This is probably the worst misrepresentation of a carrier in their claim of coverage for L.I. There is a black hole for cellular coverage from this provider in my area.

The Vanderbilt Pkwy. area between Deer Park Ave. and Commack Road; and the Long Island Expressway to Jericho Turnpike... vitually no reception signal. Have to plan calls because they are always cut off in the area.

Most people say VZW is your only recourse if you live in Huntington. At this address a little further south, on the flat, we have 1 or 2 bars at home, many dropped calls, drop-outs during calls. VZW said this was due to older Startac since they say we are surrounded by towers. Finally reached end of contract (to drop 2nd phone that wouldn't charge and reduce minutes - how do you choose between spending $200 for another phone before end of contract and spending extra $20/month for the year?) and tried the LG for 15 days. No improvement. VZW suggests leaving home to make calls! Cancelled VZW for now, since I could. About to try Sprint, but coverage maps out of state make me leery. I don't like the idea of risking higher bills due to roaming. Will update later.

I finally switched from Verizon to Nextel and I am happy I did. Reception on the road is virtually identical from both carriers yet Nextel is as good as a land line in my house; Verizon often had "no service" in my home. Plus the direct connect feature is fantastic and ends up to be a money saver as well.

It does not work in my home yet they refuse to allow me out of the contract! We also have a Nextel phone which works perfectly. I am considering changing all of our Verizon's to Nextel.
