I get good reception, even works in the basement with the Nokia phones, can't beat them. I had a Samsung x427 which sounded great when it worked, but dropped more calls and didn't get the signal strength that I get with the Nokia. That's because Nokia uses either Dual or Quad conversion receive in their phones, double what other phones use. Having been into CD and HAM radio since I was a kid, which means it's been over 30 years now I'm quite familiar with how wireless devices work. Verizon admitted years ago that even the exact same phone between Verizon and old ATT, ATT would have the better reception, also because of it being a GSM phone too. If your with any carrier, try switching to a Nokia phone. If it still doesn't work, then it's just the signal coming from the carrier. I spoke with Verizon recently after getting annoyed with "the new ATT" and they admitted there were issues several years ago bu they've been fixed. My Nokia's have always worked in subways, parking garages, basements and many other places that other phones and providers did not.

I live on Anchor Drive, across from the park. I'm sitting in my house as I type this and my phone has a full signal. Generally speaking in this area of the south shore I almost always have a good signal. The only dead spot that comes to mind is on the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expwy (135) around where it intersects the Southern State. Verizons coverage is really pretty good and to be honest it's the only reason I stay with them.

I don't think I've made a single call that hasn't dropped. I could be standing outside of my house, on top of my roof, or in my backyard and would be lucky if I didn't get a "Call Lost" message! Enough complaining, what can we do?

Still in 14 day trial - not happy but from what I hear they are all about the same. I don't think there is any one cell company that does a good job today. I'n not happy now so before I get locked in fo a year, I going to cancel T-Mobile and try another... . nothing to lose

Frequently many times the phone has 5 bars of full service. During these times, when a call comes in or a make a call, these bars drop instantly to 3 or less. Service can sometimes be spotty and terrible call quality despite the number of bars of service present. GSM still has had improvement with the introduction of a new cell site in Massapequa Pk on the watertower, where before it's installation had absolutely no service around Park Blvd south of Sunrise Hwy in Massapequa Park. Troublesome areas include 135 southboung of SS Pkwy, 107 between Broadway and Hicksville Rd near SS Pkwy area (this area is between the cell towers in lower Massapequa and north near Farmingdale. Despite some good service occasionally, the GSM service is being updated constantly, but still needs info from many customers to truly create excellent coverage. Although many say Verizon is great, it's coverage isn't always that much better, and the selection of phones is dismal, along with network features like Get it Now! which sucks, and constant network changes including buzzing, dropped calls, and days of dropped service. If you are willing to deal with a few missed calls and frustration, as you would with any company. AT&T wireless GSM should be the way to go, especially with the enhanced coverage about to begin with the Cingular merge, which should be in effect sometime after the New Year in some areas like Upstate NY.
