Poor, poor. New Avalon building. Reception only next to windows. Text message from outside not received sometimes for hours. Cell frequently does not ring.
Pros: Generally have good reception everywhere, even when no one else can get a signal (and my phone is old - recently visited Niagara Falls with my sisters who have Verizon and Cingular and I was the only one with a cell phone which could get a signal for most of the day). Customer service is usually knowledegable, helpful and pleasant (in 6 years of service, I have only had one person be rude) and so far I always get someone who speaks understandable english (in an age where many companies are farming out service to the 3rd world, this is a big plus). Cons: Ongoing problem with notice of voice mail messages not being received by my phone until up to 2 days after the message was left (I get around this by checking my voice mail frequently). Over the last year have noticed a tendency for calls lasting more than 30 minutes to get dropped - don't know if this is due to overload on the service or my old phone.
Nextel works fine around New Rochelle, no carriers work in Scarsdale, which I border. My husband who travels into Midtown Manhattan daily, hates Nextel. It doesn't work in Manhattan or on Metro North. When you call Nextel they say NY is a major market and they do have service here, whatever! Maybe we need to put tin foil rabbit ears on the phone.
Not sure why, but when I had my Nextel phone, reception was great. With this phone the bar signal is all over the place, It goes up and down the sale just sititng in one location. weird.
