I frankly don't believe the people here saying Sprint is 5 / 5 in Manhattan. In Northern Battery Park City there is no service whatsoever. No data and so little voice that the phone doesn't ring for most calls. I work all over Manhattan and service is extremely spotty overall. The area around the MoMa in the middle of Manhattan has no service either. The phone is basically useless. I've had Blackberries on Verizon and AT&T and Sprint's service a disaster compared to both (Verizon is of course better). Under no circumstances would I recommend Sprint to an NYC resident. Can't wait to get back onto Verizon - will never consider Sprint again.

The reception is fine when my calls actually come through. Text messages will at times come in hours later. Sometimes people will say they tried to call me but I will have gotten no indication on my phone. The Sprint people tried to insinuate that I somehow broke my phone, but I have never had these problems when I'm not in NY and they tend to only happen on the weekends, so I'm thinking it's their network, not my phone.

I have been with Sprint for 10 years now and I have never had any problems with reception anywhere. No dropped calls (I don't even know what it is), always full signal and I do move around in and out of different buildings in Manhattan when I go to see my clients. I definitely recommend Sprint fo everyone. Their customer service is wonderful, very kind and patient people... It's a pity though, that they do not have lower radiation phones - but then- who does?? I hope this problem will be solved in the future - nowadays Sprint has such great cell towers coverage that they can easity launch some new phones with lower SAR.

Upgraded to new phone and now I have 5 bar most of the time. I have the free roaming option to manually force it to be on Verizon and I only do that if I'm going into the elevator or basement because the 850 mhz CDMA signal that Verizon uses penetrates the buildings better. It should be even better when they move to 700 mhz after the digital tv broadcasts beging and they allow that portion of the spectrum to be used for voice. I'm happy with Sprint service and the "option" for Verizon if needed underground / elevators.

Reception in my house is TERRIBLE. Be very cautious about getting Sprint if you live in this location - near the intersection of 212th and 108th St. I moved here after having been with Sprint for 6 months, and have been unable to talk in my house ever since. I know Verizon has excellent coverage in this location - not sure about others.

Everyone I know who has used Sprint whines about how much their reception sucks but I use the sanyo-stick phones which are unpopular but they get AMAZING reception. I even get service INSIDE penn station!

Regular drop-outs... I'm fed up. What I don't understand is this: I drive every day in Manhattan and I know EXACTLY where the drop-out spots are. I always know when to tell the call recipient that I will call him or her back... because we're about to have a "lost call" thanks to Sprint. 79th Between 5th and 3rd. FDR drive just south of Waterside. Etc. It's embarrassing. Can't SPRINT just fix this stuff? It's been years.

Sprint PCS really does suck! I just got my 3rd replacement phone and it doesn't work, I would call Sprint to cancel but I can't, It doesn't hold a charge and I can't even log on to the network to send a text. I would use a can and a string before I spend another dollar with sprint. James

Surprisingly good reception. Absolutely no problems outside and fairly reliable inside (even in the bathroom :-) Overall, I didn't have too many complaints about Sprint in the city. I could make long taxi rides on the phone without dropped calls. Not that it even comes close to quality of service in Europe or Asia, but that's another story.

I've had a Sprint phone and lived in the area for almost a year, had pretty decent reception with my older phone and even better with my newer phone. It's not perfect, but calls come in and I have steady reception. Sprint PCS is ok in this area. As is Virgin Mobile, which was my phone before that, and which I believe also shares Sprint's network.

Called to complain to Sprint as my cell phone kept on dropping calls, particularly when I was trying to resolve tech support issues (it's my only phone). First person I talked to was helpful but could not do anything so she passed me on. Second person informed me that sprint does not guarantee that you'll have service in a particular area and that apparently my phone just didn't work either in buildigns or because there were too many tall buildings around(if that's the case then how does manhattan get cell phone coverage). I told her that dropped calls happened all the time and if just to prove my point, the call dropped. As soon as I can figure out how to get out of my contract I am leaving Sprint.

I just moved from 74th b/w 2nd & 3rd, where I had great reception. Now when my phone rings I have to squeeze against the window to get just enough time to tell whoever is calling to call me on the land line before it drops the call. I went to the sprint store to complain, they laughed and said NO cell phones get reception where I live, which is b.s. b/c I know people who get reception w/ other companies in my building.
