No service in building on West 86th street. Phone network changes to At&t, even though I pay for T-Mobile service. I always drop calls especially before entering the one train. Awful service.

No reception whatsoever on the first floor back in the year 2005 when I first bought my first phone ever, I was 15 years old. As soon as you enter the building, phone showed that there is no service. Since I had no service back then I decided to switch to AT&T at the time. Well recently about a month ago, I decided to buy the cheapest prepaid T-Mobile plan to see if this problem has been fixed and because I want to leave AT&T... But as of right now year 2011, the problem hasn't been fixed! A problem that has been happening since 2005! Called T-Mobile explained it to them, that it has been years that my building never gets service from their network. They said the signal was weak in my area but they couldn't guarantee that they would install a new tower just for me. And then people wonder why they're a failing business? 6 years and they never corrected the problem. No wonder they're going out of business! However I don't agree with AT&T buying T-Mobile as I want to leave AT&T. It is better that another company buys T-Mobile so that the consumers can have another GSM choice besides AT&T! If AT&T buys T-Mobile then AT&T will have a monopoly over GSM phones period! No matter how good their service is after they merge! STILL A MONOPOLY OF GSM!

Densely populated area like most of Manhattan, lots of upscale buildings, big surprise T-Mobile service is so bad, especially inside any building. Voice calls often go through on some phones (Android G1 - yes, but with problems, Blackberry Pearl - no, cheap Nokia - no). Wireless Internet does not work at all, drops connection every minute.

T-mobile in midtown is TERRIBLE inside office buildings. Data connection is virtually non-existent most of the business day, especially during stock market hours. Even when the signal indicator shows 4 or 5 bars, the internet still doesn't connect. Call quality is also very choppy. Signal strength would fluctuate between 4 bars and no network, as if there are too many T-Mobile subscribers for their towers to handle. However, T-Mobile data connection in Brooklyn is fantastic, often reaching 3.5G.

T-mobile in the upper west side of Manhattan is pretty good outdoors, but HORRIBLE indoors! That means that the towers are far away from this area. I have to wait outside to finish calls otherwise I loose them once I go in. Seems like AT&T is better for this area if you have GSM. Best carrier overall is Verizon. I never hear of anyone having problems with their network.

I have been a happy T Mobile customer, never any problem, always reception with little exceptions. If its up to me, I would never leave them but since 3 days, I have no reception at home. I heard more people in Washington Heights, who had reception before, lost it and need to switch. Anyone have an idea how to find out about a "lost" tower?

Near spotless coverage in my apartment building on the T-Mobile network, even on the lower floors, even in the elevators. Alternately, the lower floors (and my apartment, for sure) are known to be dead zones for phones running on the AT&T network. T-Mobile wins, in this case.

I was with T-Mobile for two years, only because I had a contract with them. I hate T-Mobile with a passion. Never got a signal and got a lot of missed calls in my apartment. Couldn't talk for more than 5 minutes because the service would drop out of no where.Even when traveling, barely received a reception. The customer service was not helpful. I switched over to AT&T and I have full bars and haven't had a drop call. I couldn't be happier.

I called T mobile and they filed the complaint, but I don't get cell service, so I am not a happy customer. Have to use the client's phone to coordinate the work and my workers get 3 bars to full power (sprint and cingular). sucks.

T-Mobile's coverage is far superior to the other expensive providers who over-charge everyone. Their is a huge difference between marketing perception and actual facts, and T-Mobile hands down beats ALL the competition. Now they can also gaurantee full coverage and free nationwide calling from ANY home or office for opnly $9.99 / month. Who else can do that???? Keep up the great work T-Mobile!

Signal goes in and out in my apartment building, Calls drop frequently and callers can be difficult to hear. Worst during the day. Forget about talking to others on cell phones - you find yourself asking "what?" every other sentence. I like T-Mobile prices, low surcharges, and customer service, but I am considering switching to Verizon, despite the fact that it might cost - gulp - double what I pay. I've had Sprint, which is tempting price-wise, but customer service stinks and reception is spotty. AT&T gets mixed feedback from my friends.

This is one big farce. I always thought that it was not T-MOBILE's fault that when I went into my building I would not get service. Then one day apparently the network shut down and I was roaming on Cingular's network... . It was really amazing. I mean that: I had FULL BARS in every spot of my apt, I couldn't believe it! This whole time I thought my walls were made of something that stopped the signal, but apparently its just that T-MOBILE IS WEAK in my building. I call up and they try to sign me up for hot spot at home - BUT I DONT GO OVER MY MINUTES. And they try to sell me a new phone, but i've done that already and it never works. WHAT REALLY GETS ME ANGRY is that when I dont get T-Mobile service, I feel like I Should be 'ROAMING' on Cingular's service SINCE it is available and T-Mobiles is not. BUT even when I do a 'MANUAL NETWORK SELECTION' like those poor innocent service representatives advice me to do, it says its registering with CINGULAR but hten goes back to TMOBILE. I figure, maybe I have service now, with no bars, I hope... .. and what do you know! CALL FAILED! AGAIN! CALL FAILED! I mean come on, the truth is you get what you pay for. If I had the money i'd be paying for Verizon and drop T-Mobile in a heartbeat. But i'm not a rich man. I just want honesty. Dont blame it on my phone. Don't blame it on my building. JUST BLAME IT ON YOUR WEAK TOWERS> Terrible. I'm going to cut out that second cup of coffee I have everyday and i'm going to switch to VERIZON. After I speak with a supervisor. CALL THEM UP. ASK THEM FOR A SUPERVISOR TELL THEM THAT THE SERVICE SUCKS HERE AND YOU SHOULD BE ROAMING

Everything I've read about T-Mobile on this site is absolutely correct. I experience all the same issues. I thought it may be just my phone or just me. I get full reception, standing in the same spot, that drops to zero and then drops the call. Does T Mobile have weaker signal strength? I left Verizon for this crap, probably heading back to Verizon. Cool phones are a plus... but only if they work! Verizon needs better phones and T-Mobile needs better service, at least in the US. I got better reception in the niddle of an African safari, no kidding!

Inside Baruch Campus, T-Mobile and Cingular seem to have the worst service. Nextel and Verizon has the best service so far. Out side the area around 24th st and lexington area, there are many dead zones and that just makes T-Mobile worst. I just use my phone to show off now days around campus because I can't use it to call or receive people.

T-mobile's coverage is terrible. Outside is ok but once go inside of the bldg. I lose all reception. I used to have Verizon and I didn't have any problem. I should go back to Verizon, but T-mobile's package is much better than Verizon, and don't want to pay penalty for cancellation to T-Mobile 'cause poor reception is their problem, not mine.

My phone works pretty well by the windows in the front and back rooms, but not at all in between. I saw a similar comment here from someone on the same street. T Mobile keeps saying theyll send someone to investigate the problem but of course that never happens. Im considering switching to Verizon and telling T Mobile I refuse to pay their cancellation fee due to poor service. But Verizon's rates to text to Europe are so high...

According to the cell tower map... there's a tower ON our building. While my phone indicates a decent signal (3 to 4 bars), the quality is awful. Reception is full of dropouts and garbled sound. Moving near a window does not help. St.level is OK. We have found that virtually all carriers have similar problems... thus indicating some type of signal interference or crowdedness.

Reception is excellent throughout the city, from uptown to downtown. With Sprint, reception was horrible and calls were frequently dropped, but after 2 years with T-Mobile I have yet to have a call dropped, other than underground or in elevators. Customer service could be better, and avoid their service centers like the plague, but unless you need to go there to pay your bill, you shouldn't ever have any complaints.

Every other cell phone I've ever seen works fine in my office (it's made of glass) except the T-Mobile phones. Run, don't walk: run, somewhere else. I have a great phone, which (as noted elsewhere in comments) works better on deserted islands 5000 miles away from home, than it does in midtown Manhattan. Ridiculous. Minimum 4 bars standing right in the front window and in the back garden. Everywhere else in the apt (first floor of 3 story brownstone) get 1, maybe two bars with constant break-up. Switched to Cingular, bought the same series phone (blackberry 7100) and the reception is exactly the same. Very poor. Otherwise the reception on both plans is great: outside, office buildings etc. Weird. I get better reception on a deserted beach in southern Yucatan than I do in my kitchen. Sister-in-law has Verizon which works fine in my apt. If only they had better phones.

Reception in my apartment is awful. The phone shows 3-4 reception bars and sometimes still my caller can't hear me. When I am completely still the reception changes from 4 bars to "out of service," as if the cell tower were being driven around the block in the back of a truck or something - I can think of no other explanation for this weirdness. I complained to T-Mobile numerous times and they don't seem to care - once the operator suggested turning the phone on and off daily to "re-establish the connection" to the tower. I verbally doubted the science behind that suggestion - and it didn't work anyway. Icing on the cake? I just got a postcard from T-Mobile braying about better reception in Northern Manhattan. I haven't seen it yet. I might suck up the "breach of contract" fee just so I no longer have to pay these people for a service I can't often use, esp since we can bring our numbers to other carriers.

I've had T-Mobile since they were Omnipoint and then Voicestream and have been mostly satisfied with the service. Only thing is that they still don't have coverage in a lot of places. I took my cell phone on vacation to VA in 2001 and discovered to my dismay that it was useless; they had no service there. Then I went to CA this past Dec and found out that even though TMobile had service out west, that I was roaming on Cingular's network, so I couldn't take full advantage of my minutes. I would recommend TMobile, but they need to expand their service so they can truly be a national plan. They also need a wider selection of phones and a better upgrade plan.

When I do occasionally have signal on the 7100 in this location, I get 3 or 4 bars! Reception is rarely the issue for me. The big issue is that calls come in and callers get a "number not working message." Or worse, the call goes straight to voicemail and never even displays (ever) on my phone. If I am lucky, I get a notice that there is a voicemail. Sometimes it is a 3 -5 day lag. T-Mobile tells me this is due to "tower failure" (long term at this point) and claims they are not responsible. They have refunded a portion of my monthly bill when I press them on it though. At least customer service is pleasant.

Outdoors I get 5 bars, indoors I get between 1 and 2. If I stand by the window I can get 4 bars. However, even with 1 bar this SE T630 phone has been able to make and receive calls. On evenings and weekends when a lot of people are in my neighborhood (SoHo), there is more clipping/compression during a call. I think T-Mobile needs another cell site in this area, but for most of the day it's pretty good.
I switched from Verizon, which always gave me 5 bars of service on a Motorola Timeport, but the quality of the calls wasn't as clear as it is with the T630 with 4 or 5 bars.
AT&T also shows up as an available network but it doesn't reach all the way inside like the T-Mobile signal does.

Lately, I've been having very poor reception in my office. I was told that T-Mobile had a cell problem in the region. When are they going to fix it?

note: there's no reception at Dining Hall in Grand Central Station

*Reception* is actually good. But almost every call gets dropped after less than a minute! This has been going on since before Thanksgiving - and customer service keeps repeating, "Yes, we have problems there, they will be fixed soon" and adding bonus minutes to my account - which I might as well donate back to them. Two thumbs down.

Good reception in my apt. Sometimes with outgoing calls (1 out of every 25 calls or so), the other person can't hear me, though I can hear them, so I have to call back and tell them I wasn't crank calling them.

Had good service for a while after (then) VoiceStream got its network together, but fall and winter this year has been bad. T-Mobile has lots of spots in the neighborhood (East Village) where calls drop regularly and where its hard to place a call. Midtown is a problem too. Otherwise its been OK in the metro area. Going upstate its bad - only on the Interstates and a few towns.

When outdoors, unbelievably clear. When under less than 8 floors of buildings in my dorm, it works great except in some dead areas. For some reason works on every floor of the Empire State building but not many other buildings with a lot of ceilings above.
