At home on 6th floor I get perfect reception. However, on Columbia campus I often have no reception at all - even outdoors. I have to leave the campus to make or receive phone calls. Will be looking for different provider.
Reception in my house is TERRIBLE. Be very cautious about getting Sprint if you live in this location - near the intersection of 212th and 108th St. I moved here after having been with Sprint for 6 months, and have been unable to talk in my house ever since. I know Verizon has excellent coverage in this location - not sure about others.
Signal has dropped from Average to NO Signal within the last three months. Our Nokia, Sony-Ericcson and Motorola phones are unusable inside our apartment. Not much better in front of the building.
In the last three months, reception from AT&T / Cingular has gone from Average to NONE. We also have a Motorola 168 and an old Nokia with external antenna. Nothing on any of them. Phones are unusable within our apartment, though they will ring on incoming calls. Aswering only gives dead air. AT&T should have stayed in the cable-TV business they'd bought. They've become a horrible company, in providing service, and to deal with.
T-Mobile works reasonably well for me in midtown / uptown NYC. In Soho, where my wife gets excellent Verizon reception, I get none at all. I use the phone oftenin Europe where T-M is excellent.
Signal goes in and out in my apartment building, Calls drop frequently and callers can be difficult to hear. Worst during the day. Forget about talking to others on cell phones - you find yourself asking "what?" every other sentence. I like T-Mobile prices, low surcharges, and customer service, but I am considering switching to Verizon, despite the fact that it might cost - gulp - double what I pay. I've had Sprint, which is tempting price-wise, but customer service stinks and reception is spotty. AT&T gets mixed feedback from my friends.
