I was with T-Mobile for two years, only because I had a contract with them. I hate T-Mobile with a passion. Never got a signal and got a lot of missed calls in my apartment. Couldn't talk for more than 5 minutes because the service would drop out of no where.Even when traveling, barely received a reception. The customer service was not helpful. I switched over to AT&T and I have full bars and haven't had a drop call. I couldn't be happier.

AT&T

5 Out of 5 (5 stars) | 8th Ave. | 33rd St., New York, NY 10001 |

Shows good reception, but when in a call, it is impossible to hear the other person, and the calls get cut off.

My phone rarely works properly. It will ring, but I often cannot hear the other person at all. I had to start using Skype in my apartment.

AT& on my block is pretty useless. I had Sprint before with no problems. Now when I'm in my apartment, I can only send text or use my home phone.

My preferred PDA is the Palm, but reception inside building on the Treo just didn't happen. I switched to Samsung Blackjack and I can now talk inside my apartment. But, I hate the blackjack for all other functions. Other than as a phone, it sucks.

Verizon

5 Out of 5 (5 stars) | Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel, New York, NY 10004 |

just got a new blackberry and my call sustained all the way thru on the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel. I had ATT for many years and dont recall ever sustaining a call all the way thru from NY to Brooklyn.. 6 years and every time I tried, the call dropped (on GSM and later on 3G). I am so glad I switched..

I go to NY often and stay in the Sheraton Hotel on 7th Ave and 52nd Street. I prefer the lower floors (afraid of heights). I am now in the 7th Ave. side and have terrible phone and data service. I called customer service and they tell me I am 100ft away from a cell tower, so what is up with that? I cant believe AT&T is still on the cellular business.. Verizon is way much better countrywide.

Just switched from T-Mobile to AT&T because I was getting so many dropped calls with T-mobile. So far no dropped calls and better call quality. However, AT&T's customer service is horrible and the people in their stores clueless.

Reception inside the Home Depot is either poor, or nonexistent. This is not good for contractors who need to use their phone inside the store for business.

I live on the ground floor and my building effectively blocks reception inside my apartment (even though service outside on 9th Ave is perfect and the AT&T cell tower is nearby on 811 10th Ave). I have become aware of the concerns and limitations regarding home installed cell repeaters and the expense of large industrial repeaters (and the requirement for carrier approval). Especially in Manhattan, it is not easy for the consumer to take measures to improve cellular reception. At the Web 2.0 Conference in November 2008, Ralph de la Vega CEO of AT&T Mobility, indicated that AT&T will initiate market testing of Femtocell technology in 2009. He also indicated plans to use an enhanced 850 MHz spectrum to improve signal in densely populated areas. These are both important enhancements. In the meantime, I really enjoy my iPhone but the reception is unreliable and I really want to use the iPhone. Verizon is much more immune to signal deterioration in the city.

almost no reception inside my 6 story building since ATT lost its lease on top of the Mark Hotel on 77th St.due to renovation there. They need to replace this tower. We receive calls but they get immediately cut off. We are now 10075 but I am reporting this as 10021 because Mobiledia does not know the new zip code has been created and will not accept a report for 10075

Even though our building is 3 blocks from Columbus Circle, I get terrible reception on my iPhone, to the point where I need to stand by the window in our apt to take calls. Overall, I have had a pretty dismal experience, anywhere in NYC, with the AT&T service required of all iPhones. I love the iPhone as a device, but really miss my Verizon service. Guess you can't have your cake and eat it too...

Generally I have no problems with reception at all anywhere in the neighborhood or in my apartment with the exception of one room. Also work in WTC area and reception is excellent everywhere in the area.

Outdoors on the sidewalk there are 1-2 bars, sometimes up to 3. But in our 4th floor apartment there is barely enough signal to send a text message when you are hanging out the window. It has been a hellish year living with a phone you have to go outside to use. When I hear my phone ring and see who it is, I am filled with rage that I can't answer the call. Verizon said there was nothing they could do, so we're both switching to AT&T. I hear Verizon is better in general but I need my phone to work where I LIVE.

I cant believe how bad AT&T sucks here. I am in the 10th floor and dont get any reception in my office, which located not very far from the window. Verizon has better indoor and tunnel coverage and also in the boroughs. these stupid guys that do the engineering there must go back to school. it was much better last year..
