Just swiched from Cincular to T-Mobile and the service is pretty much worthless. Even if the call goes thru, it always drops off. Seriously, its almost funny how much time one can invest in trying to understand why the service is so unreliabale on 72nd from York to FDR.

Nextel reception around 181 st. sucks. Barely works in the basement and don't even thinks of using the phone between 183rd and 185 st and Pinehurst.

I am working on the 48th Floor. Reception is poor, i.e., I direct the phone towards the window in a vain attempt to keep and signal, but calls are dropped, and emails / Web services are interrupted.

In my apartment it's hot and cold. Seems like I've always got a signal, but it's not uncommon to reveive VM without having received the call... even when my phone's sitting charging on my desk. In this neighborhood (on the street) I've always got signal.

I get excellent reception for 15 to 30 minutes a day and NO reception anywhere from Lower Manhattan to Central Park West the rest of the time. Usually, early in the morning or late at night I'll get a strong signal on the 19th floor in my west-facing apartment. Then, in mid conversation, pfft! Dead as a doornail for the next 12 to 23 hours. This phone is still usng a SIM from the AT&T service. A salesperson in the Cingular store beween 53rd and 54th on Broadway told me that's probably what the problem is. The contract was originated on the West Coast, and even though we are now out of contract, the guy told me that only my wife, who signed up for the service, can get the SIM changed. As my wife is still on the West Coast, this is a pain. I may just sign a new service contract with Cingular here and get a new phone. My sister-in-law was in NYC Tuesday night and got excellent Cingular connectivity everywhere we went in Manhattan, including the subway tunnels.

I have a hard time getting a signal. Many times there is no signal at all and I miss calls. Sometimes I have to go to the end of the block before I can get a good signal.

sweeping signal: full strength to no bars to no service and then roaming. weird.

goes from no signal to roaming or no bars. not usable.

Outside reception is good but going into building the reception falls greatly.

Used to be AT&T Wireless and had no problems in my apartment. But ever since Cingular took over I can't carry on a conversation becuase it cuts out every other word even though I constantly have 5 bars. Thought it was my old Sony Ericson phone and then went and upgraded to the razr and still the same problem. Guess I'll try Verizon.
