The 850MHz is working good in NYC.

I receive reasonable reception on the street and in my apartment. Sometimes the signal is better in one room than another, but overall, I have not had too much trouble receiving or making calls. At times, if I receive a call from someone who has an AT&T phone, the call gets dropped or the signal is bad, but I think that is on their side. Overall a 3 out of 5.

I've had T-Mobile for 1 year and reception is terrible in my apartment. I have to place the phone against the window, and even then I get one bar and constantly lose the connection.

Weak coverage -- signal usually only two or three bars, sometimes as high as 4. In almost every call, reception will eventually become spotty and audio will drop (typically, person on other end can hear me, but I can't hear them). Very annoying.

Good reception in apartment and on street. Few dropped calls.

Even though I have a few bars, no reception whatsoever for 1 1/2 weeks now. I live near this intersection unfortunately, so no reception in my apartment. If I walk down bway to 95th I can get a signal.

Lately the Cingular service has been horrible in my house. Judging from the comments, I should have never gotten Cingular in the first place. I think I'll switch to Verizon or AT&T. The only thing good about Cingular is its marketing!

3 bars on both the Uptown and Downtown side of the 103rd St. and Lexington Avenue Subway! Call was not dropped or lost, even with trains roaring past.

Verizon has never given me less than 5 bars whether in my apartment or on the street. Works great all around.

Works nearly as well as Verizon near Columbia's campus.

Even outside, on the street, clear skies, full battery, I still get only one bar and constantly get dropped. :(

I get poor reception in my apartment on 14th and Ave A, or anywhere else I've been in Manhattan for that matter. I was told my Samsung phone needs an upgrade to work better, but I only bought it three months ago (warranty is up already, so store won't take it back). They want me to mail it to Texas for repairs, and won't give me a loaner or pay for shipping. Having a ten minute conversation without dropping the call is rare. AT&T is horrible. I am paying the $175 to cancel service and switch to Verizon.

No probs indoors or outdoors. No reception at all in the subway (oh well, what can you expect?)

I get absolutley perfect reception from home and outside. GSM reception in Manhattan is perfect. Although I have had my share of drop calls outside of the city. Since GSM is fairly new in America, stick to the metro areas for clear reception.

I recently switched to Sprint and there is NO reception inside Penn Station. I am very disappointed with the service. Other than Verizon does anyone know what carrier gets good reception inside Penn Station?

Even when the bars are high (which is unusual), this service (I've tried 4 phones) does not work well in NYC. They claim in their ads that it works better in buildings, but then if you call them, they say the phones don't work as well around concrete. Their service is disintigrating. I complained to the FTC, and when AT&T called me all they were willing to do was cancel my service without a charge, so now I have to find a different service.

Problem is in my apt. Phone will cut out for no reason. I used to have an Audiovox phone which was perfect. Used it for about 5 years until it started giving me problems turning it on. Had no problems until then and had perfect service in elevators, the subway, etc. Have always had Verizon and find they have the best coverage; I blame the phone I got from them recently for the sporadic cut-outs.

Cingular has excellent signal in this area. The phone shows 5 bars almost all the time. Maybe it's hte phone, but I notice good signal around the city.

Phone says 2 bars, however, when calls are made, reception jumps to 0 and phone says call failed. No matter how many times I retry, calls don't go through. Calls come in, but once I answer the phone, I can't hear anything. T-Mobile sucks. I'll be switching as soon as my contract is up. If anyone reads with with good service in Inwood, please post. On average I have to call someone back at least 7 to 10 times in a 30 minute call in my home and on the street it's a bit better but still a high call drop rate. I have better luck downtown below 14th and in Central Park. The bars drop suddenly and sometimes I cannot call out for up to 10 minutes. Not an AT&T fan but I do love the phone.
