on a very high floor and reception reads 4 bars, but interestingly, people often can't hear me or hear every other word. It seems to vary greatly if I move one foot in one direction versus another. Also, I have tons of failed calls. If I find a spot, I need to stand still to have the call.

I work in the Rockefeller area. I have like 1 or 2 bars consistently and the data service is about non-existent. I can't do anything with it. The guys sits next to me with Verizon had no issue. Apple needs to dump AT&T. It gives Apple a bad name.

T-mobile sucks, especially if you are attending Baruch College. It just loses signals right after I entered the building. I think I should switch to Verizon.

I read the last review (from today) and thought it was my husband, but it was not. I bought him a iPhone 4 in MA for Valentine's Day and sent him off to work in NYC. Alas, close to zero service. He is in the Wall and Pine St.area. Not sure what to do. I convinced him that the iPhone was so much better than the Blackberry he had. Oh no. Hell to pay.

AT&T should be ashamed of their lack of service in one of the major city centers in the world. In order for me to attempt to connect a call in my building, I need to sit on my windowsill with the phone laying next to me in speaker phone mode. Typically, I will need to attempt a call 5 times in a row before the "call failed" messages end, and the call actually connects. Once that happens (when the mini-miracle occurs - my cellphone actually makes a CALL), it's a crap shoot as to how long the call will stay connected. I was a Verizon consumer prior to the iPhone coming out, and I am once again a Verizon consumer with a brand new iPhone4. I will NEVER go back to AT&T.

I think there is a troll here. Verizon service is solid. I hated my Incredible. The service sucked on it because it was the device. iPhone shows 5 bars where Droid showed 2-1 bars. Speeds are fast, too. Just got 2.4Mbps.

Man of course vzw has no reception here. I drop calls and have extremely slow data. 0.2mbps down and 0.09mbps up using speedtest. Seems like all the carriers are having worse service and wanting to charge more.

Service has never been great, but in the past 2 or 3 months, it is almost nonexistant. More than half the time, I cannot get a call through at all. Nor can I receive one. Other times, I get through but I hear my own voice echo back and the party I am calling can hear me but I can't hear them. If I do get through, the call is often dropped and I need to try again. AT&T PLEASE get your act together in NYC (especially in the Village). I can only take so much more of this until I will have to defect!

Wow, I don't know what happened. Suddenly I got 5 bars of service in the Lower East Side. Previously barely 1 bar. I was even using a M-Cell but tonight the new 5 bars are bumping me off the microcell because the AT&T signal is stronger. Well, 'bout time.

As soon as I enter my work floor I lose reception on my iPhone. I cannot place calls, Incoming calls do not ring and I get new voicemail alerts only when I leave the building and walk at least a block. Text messages are delayed incoming and outgoing. If I power the device off and on again after 5 minutes I will get reception for about 10 minutes after which my bars dissappear again and the device starts 'searching' for service. First time I contacted AT&T about this they told me to make sure that I was not obstructing the antenna (around the phone's edges) so I removed the protective case but this did not help much. I had a regular AT&T cell phone up to January of this year and I never had a reception problem in my office building until I switched to the iPhone. I love it for all the tons for features and apps and it sure does make my hectic schedule more manageable but I'm thinking of going back to simple phone so that I can have my service all the time.

On 11th St.or 12th St.walking between University Place and 6th Avenue, I get dropped calls consistently. Also, in my apartment on 10th and University I get very poor reception that has seemed to have gotten worse in the three years I've lived here. It's really nerve racking, though I'm hoping that it will get better as iPhone customers defect to Verizon in January.

I work in 49th and 6th. I am in edge most of the time, without 4G coverage. When I do get it the signal is so bad I can't even check my email. Even when I leave the building and I try from the street the signal is weak. This is Times Square, the center of Manhattan. If we don't get good service from AT&T here, what are we to expect?

Densely populated area like most of Manhattan, lots of upscale buildings, big surprise T-Mobile service is so bad, especially inside any building. Voice calls often go through on some phones (Android G1 - yes, but with problems, Blackberry Pearl - no, cheap Nokia - no). Wireless Internet does not work at all, drops connection every minute.

I don't quite get why Sprint has gotten bad reviews. I use the cheapest phone VirginMobile offers and it has worked perfectly all over town, outside town, and halfway down the stairs to the subway.

T-mobile in midtown is TERRIBLE inside office buildings. Data connection is virtually non-existent most of the business day, especially during stock market hours. Even when the signal indicator shows 4 or 5 bars, the internet still doesn't connect. Call quality is also very choppy. Signal strength would fluctuate between 4 bars and no network, as if there are too many T-Mobile subscribers for their towers to handle. However, T-Mobile data connection in Brooklyn is fantastic, often reaching 3.5G.

Many times I got 5 bars, and the call get dropped, anyway I live in 42 St. "the heart of NYC and I cant believe how horrible is the service here, continuous calls dropped, all time, and ATT reps telling you about "towers being down" in Philadelphia and NJ, What? Im done with AT&T, why don't invest some money on actually improve the service instead of wasting money on TV commercials about how great is their Crappy service.

I've been sticking it out with ATT for a few years and I've had it, had it, had it with endless dropped calls. Worse, I keep getting polite reps who endlessly tell me about 'towers being down or being repaired.' One rep told me I had "metal" in my building! I politely informed her that we use metal in buildings in NYC so they won't fall down. Further, when I point out that I try making calls from Wall St.[my office seems to be it's own personal ATT Dead Zone], which is basically the capital of the planet and not some farm in Iowa, I'm politely told "they're working on it." I've learned to speak faster because it's not a question of IF an ATT call will drop it's WHEN. I have just spent $130 on a Verizon Accolade. It is a pre-paid one month phone. It's not as fancy as my Samsung Impression but it does something ATT phones have a VERY hard time doing... it does ***NOT*** drop calls! Today, 10-18-10, the little Accolade made successful calls from 2 locations [1 in my office another in a nearby building in lower manhattan] where ATT never even shows ONE bar!

I get 5 bars on my Nokia, but celll simply DOES NOT WORK as it is supposed to. And by that, I mean basics phone conversation! Phone works great in CT, and I just realized the ATT issues after I started working in NYC.

I have to sit in my widow seal to get reception. I have Boost Mobile which is the same company as Nextel. I use to have Metro PC and I never had an issue.
