I bought an iPhone 3G from the Apple Store on 14th St. three days ago, and thus was forced to switch to AT&T from Verizon Wireless despite many, many happy years with them. Tomorrow I will be returning the iPhone, sadly. The hardware and many apps are excellent... but AT&T service in Manhattan is absolutely the WORST! In my apartment, in restaurants, in office buildings -- even in Grand Central! -- over the last couple of days I have had dropped calls and virtually NO access to Internet and email. Whenever I step out onto the street, the signal is perfect... but the iPhone with AT&T service is virtually UNUSABLE in New York City. And I have tried to use it in SEVERAL neighborhoods, and always the same problem. Tomorrow, as I said, I am returning the iPhone, quitting AT&T, switching BACK to Verizon Wireless, and getting a BlackBerry touchscreen through my Verizon store. If you live in NYC and are thinking of getting an iPhone... DON'T DO IT! You will regret it. UNUSABLE!
Had Verizon for nearly 15 years and NEVER had a dropped call. Recently I switched to AT&T for the iPhone and had almost 25 dropped calls per day. Switched back to Verizon and LOVE my service. Great, crisp sound quality!
I wish the AT&T reps and techs look at this website for God´s sake. My service sucks ass at work. Most of the time the call does not go thru, when it does it drops.. This is on Broadway and 53rd Street, I cant believe service is so poor! and I am on the 3rd floor, I hear the highest you go, the poorest the service, this isnt the case... I am switching to tmobile, service sucks but it is cheap...
Becoming practically not worth using. Landline more and more practical, at least reliable. Dropped calls getting worse and worse. Usually have plenty of bars, but calls die nonetheless. Lately almost every single call: drops, then drops, then drops. I know there's interference from 60 Hudson with all the dishes, etc... . but this is getting unbearable. Calls never drop outside or other locations.
When going into the BBT from Manhattan to Brooklyn the first 3rd of the tunnel has no reception. Halfway to Brooklyn it jumps to 5 Bars. Same going the other way. I switched from Verizon to AT&T, there is more dropped calls when driving.
Exceptional service and reception. Occasionally even holds onto service in the elevator going down 14 floors. Absolutely amazing. I have friends with T-Mobile and AT&T service that frequently complain about reception issues or dropped calls. Thankfully, I can't relate. Unfortunately Verizon service isn't cheap, and the phones are generally considered pathetic. I'd gladly drop Verizon if a competitor offered lower rates with similar service, but that hasn't happened yet.
