Outside 145th St.'A' Train Station / 145th Street / St. Nicholas Ave., New York, NY 10031 Fri Dec 08, 2006

I often get out of the train and try to call my wife. I have to wait until I've walked almost to 145th and Convent (or 141st and Convent if I walk down St. Nicholas) to get any reception bars. It must be that the cell towers don't reach into that valley there, but it's annoying.

I almost never get reception inside (work, home or anywhere else). I generally have bars outside although voice quality is always terrible with frequent holes and lots of static and interference. Nice customer support people though.

While many people brag about the insane places they get 5 bars with Verizon or other carriers, my reception is very mediocre. I get one or two bars in my dorm (Wien) and barely any reception in Butler Library which makes having a cell phone relatively useless. Everywhere else is average, but it seems that among my friends verizoners are the most pleased with thier plan. Yea, my contract is out so I think ill switch to verizon.

i don't know why everyone complains about sprint. Had it for 10 years, never had a problem with reception. Except when I lived in brooklyn heights for a year. bad reception in my brownstone. In manhattan, jersey, ct and Mass, there are no problems. Don't remember the last time I had a call dropped.

OK reception on street but no reception in my apt. After several calls to 611 I got to "Level 2" and after 72 hour delay got to "Advance Tech" but still no reception in my apt 17 st and 3rd. Reason they gave: "No budget for new tower."

At home (downtown) I have full bar's, but in my office building, I most of the time get either 1 bar or none. Others who have Cingular or Verizon work will almost full bar's. As someone once told me, there is a reason T-Mobile service is cheaper than Cingular and Verizon. I know it now!

Reception is near perfect, downtown. Had an issue at my apartment in early Oct. 2006, called customer service and they had it resolved in under 24 hrs. Since switching to TMobile, I've found the voice quality is far superior to other major carriers... sounds like you are talking and listening on a land line.

Columbia U. - Arch. Building, New York, NY 10027 Sun Oct 08, 2006

We get no T-Mobile reception in the architecture building. Most of my classmates have switched to other carriers as the reason. Get on the ball T-Mobile! In this day in age, reception above ground really shouldn't be a n issue.

Great service outdoors most of the time, but sometimes you just get unlucky and get a lot of background noise in your calls. I noticed that it was around Broadway and 8th that this usually happened, so maybe it's just the surrounding stuff there. Just as great in buildings but beware of elevators! elevators = dropped calls.

Verdesian / Teardrop Park, New York, NY 10282 Mon Oct 02, 2006

Unbelievable that in Manhattan there is zero (none, nada, zilch) reception in the Verdesian in Battery Park City. I reported this to T-Mobile in April 2006 but as of October 2006 there is no change.

From our apartment, it alternates between 5 bars and 0 without apparent reason. Quality is sporadic, I often get "network error" when I try to connect and calls get dropped without counting as "dropped calls" in their stats because it just goes silent but doesn't disconnect. It drives me crazy when I see their "fewest dropped calls" ads because they claim I have no dropped calls because one or the other party ends up hanging up after a minute of silence. Argh!

Don't get any reception at all in my entire apartment building. My roomates who have Cingular and Verizon get full bars. Sprint also works. TMobile also doesn't work in my office on 5th and 39th. I thought it was the phone but others with TMobile service don't get reception either. Am switching to Sprint, which also gets full service there.

Just swiched from Cincular to T-Mobile and the service is pretty much worthless. Even if the call goes thru, it always drops off. Seriously, its almost funny how much time one can invest in trying to understand why the service is so unreliabale on 72nd from York to FDR.

Nextel reception around 181 st. sucks. Barely works in the basement and don't even thinks of using the phone between 183rd and 185 st and Pinehurst.
