About a year ago I posted to say that there was very shotty Sprint service at the main intersection in Rhinebeck. Well, that problem has been completely fixed and now service at the main intersection in Rhinebeck is perfect. The village of Rhinebeck now has wonderful Sprint coverage. I can only assume that Sprint added a cell site, maybe a result of the Nextel merger. Just thought I should post to reflect changes.

Reception ranges from 'NO SERVICE' to POOR. Unfortunately for the consumer, for the betterment of the cell company, the fact that you attempt to connect and in cases where you do connect but cannot communicate because of poor reception the clock is still ticking away your cell minutes. The cell company's equipment doesn't log that as a dropped call. Their criteria for dropped calls are only when the cell tower drops the call. Many of the overages that occur are related to the bad service. Question? What other industry would survive, much less thrive, under such poor performance circumstances? I dare say none.

Signal strength on phone shows, at times 2-3 bars, but there is not enough 'true' signal to make the phone ring when a call comes in, not enough signal to sustain a conversation where the major context of the conversation is what I consider a 'Verizon advertisement nightmare'. This is the one where you speak into the phone asking "can you hear me?" and the comeback answer is 'NO'.

Reception in Rhinebeck varies from poor to no signal at all with Verizon. I'm thinking of switching to Cingular.

Sprint service works well just south of and just North of Rhinebeck. However, in the village itself service needs to be improved. One can get a signal but can only sometimes hold calls. No signal inside any building. There is a cell tower in the village, near the CVS, but I think it is probably only for Cell One. This is pretty pathetic considering that Sprint works very well along most of Route 9. Why should an important village be a weak spot?
