Outside the house service is only passable. Inside the house service is static and drops out frequently. Unusable as a landline replacement.

I'm.thinking of buying an iPhone 3G S and was wondering how the reception would be in my area

AT&T worked really well when I had cingular. Unfortunately Now I get dropped calls nonstop. Reception is terrible. I am the one that always has no service. I went to the AT&T store and they told me it was my phone because it is unlocked... but my sister has a Blackberry from ATT with the same problems.

everye time I get to that intersection the phone cuts off and I lose my signal. and most of the time you get stuck at the red light and have to wait to call someone back. very annoying.

In parts of St. George and New Brighton, there is virtually no reception with AT&T. Ours and all our immediate neighbors' is virtually nonexistent, generally with 1 or no bars, and sometimes shooting up to four and then disappearing again. T-Mobile has similar issues in this area, and I suspect they share signals or towers. No question: in much of the area around the Staten Island Ferry, and on the ferry itself, AT&T is practically worthless. I'd dump them if someone hadn't given me an iPHone!

Older devices work fine, 3G devices do not.

Cingular and AT&T, they share networks; you just need a 2 mode cellular (using 850 MHz and 1,900 MHz bands).

Cingular does not have any reception at wellbrook ave. Once I move towards bradley ave, it starts getting 1-2 bars. There is a problem in this block with all carriers, but others atleast work to some extent.

For people who lives in this area, nothing works other than AT&T GSM. I tried Sprint, Verizon, Cingular, T-mobile, nothign works. As for AT&T, the reception varies from phone to phone. My nokia 3200 has 4/5 bar reception, yet my Seimens C56 only have 1/5 bar.

The area along Rockland Ave from Manor Road to Ricmond Avenue has NO Reception at all using my cell phone. My older Nokia had some (low) reception in the area perhaps due to a different technology.

AT&T GSM very poor in Staten Island in general, but near the Bayonne Bridge in particular. At this intersection (where my office is) no reception whatsoever.

I do not get reception while driving along Arden Avenue, Huguenot Ave. or Bloomingdale Road. Also, coming down Grymes Hill I completely lose reception. Near / In Woodrow Plaza there is zero service. There is probably a bunch more I can think of. Nextel / Sprint is TERRIBLE.

If your driving on Victory Blvd.from Bay St. till about Jewett the reception is pretty bad you can probably go the whole ride and pick up and drop signals about 5 times before you get a real steady signal for a 1 minute conversation.

Nextel is horrendous for this location, zero reception. Their answer is that we are on a bubble i.e. convergence of three towers and there is nothing that they can do.

Nextel, terrible service if any in Staten Island, NY around the college. Nextel really doesn't care for individual customers, there concerns are for business. Also many dead spots in NJ along the Garden State Parkway. You can drive from NY down to AC and listen to your Nextell drop in and out of service. Or make a call and have the person on the other end tell you to use a pay phone instead because they are tired of trying to understand you because you drop in and out... ..

This seems to be the worst area on the island. I drive 45 minutes each way to and from work and a majority of my journey is made with no service.

It's a shame that in this day and age, I can't use my cell phone. Nextel has been absolutely the worst cell carrier I have ever used! And what makes matters worst is that Nextel CS could care less about me not being able to make and receive calls. If your looking for a new Cell provider, I suggest you ask as many people as possible in and around your area for ther opinions.
