Nextel has superior signal in many other areas that I have traveled to. Strong signal in North, East, S.E, W Columbus. Poor Signal in my area which is S.W. Columbus near Grove City. Constantly dropping calls, normally only 1-2 bars of signal. Nextel needs to grow a brain and build a tower in this area.

Thurman Ave and Jaeger, Columbus, OH 43206 Sat Jan 01, 2005

Reception is good throughout 270 corridor, however there is a longstanding deadspot on Thurman ave at Jaeger. Everytime I drive past this spot the call is dropped. Good reception inside buildings. I'm considering switching to GSM just to modernize and also because my 2 year old Nokia has recently developed volume issues (the caller can't be heard if there is any background noise).

The solution is in the phone, not the carrier. After the Motorola V220 and V180 failed to produce a signal in Worthington, Cingular agreed to send a Nokia 3120. Problem solved.

I have had Cingular for a little over a year now and have always had good reception; I have never dropped a call. I used to live in Worthington (43235) and I had really good service there, even inside buildings. I've noticed that in some apartment buildings here on campus (including my own) I don't get good service, but I think that is just a hazard of cell phones in general - regardless of maunfacturer or carrier. I will say that I get service in places that a lot of my friends don't - like the basements of buildings and inside the mall - but I think a lot of that is thanks to my phone, not Cingular.

Motorola V220
High St. / Dublin-Granville Rd. intersection, Columbus, OH 43085 Sat Dec 11, 2004

With the Motorola V220, reception is so bad that I cannot place or receive calls from anywhere inside my house or the nearby area. The phone will not ring in my house, so I am often not aware that I received a call or voicemail until I drive to work the next day (Downtown Columbus). Cingular responded by sending me two replacement handsets for the Motorola V220. When neither of the replacement phones offered any resolution, Cingular agreed to try a different model, the Motorola V180, which also failed to work in or near my home.
