I have been dropping calls, no rings, and generally poor reception here for 4 years. My neighbor who has Verizon has the same issues.

AT&T has HORRIBLE signal in Dayton, Ohio. I work at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and I get NO SIGNAL in my office and maybe 1 bar on base. Verizon has a tower just outside the gate and those customers get full signal. What gives?!? I have called a number of times to AT&T customer service and got the same old song and dance for the past 2 years... when will the lying stop?!?!? AT&T, get your act together!

Network not strong enough. Constant dropped calls, up to 14 a day. During Christmas season could not hold a call for more than 20 seconds for days. Pretty much out of business until crowd left dayton mall. Trying to use AT&T iPhone to support my business. It is a disaster. Stay away! Also does not work anywhere there is a crowd like riverfront stadium or dragons game.

Belmont, Dayton, OH 45420 Sat Aug 27, 2011

I started with AT&T cell phones when they came in a bag the size of a purse. These were analog (1G ?) phones and always worked. Switched to hand held when 2G technology came along -- nothing but trouble -- AT and T did not work half the time in Belmont area. They replaced phone twice, and I finally bought the top of the line model with my own money but nothing helped. At the time I was unable to return the expensive phone even though it didn't work any better. Eventually I got so mad I switched to a Sprint 2G phone. From day 1 barely had any Sprint service inside the house. I had Sprint reps try all sorts of stuff -- their favorite was "turn phone off and re-start since we upgrade software for better performance almost daily". This didn't help. If I "roamed" (which put me on AT and T service even though Sprint was supposedly available) I always had great service. We fooled around with Sprint for about half the 2-year contract. Finally went back to AT and T when travel forced me to get a phone that would work where I was needed to travel for work. Sprint simply didn't work some places and had no coverage at the time. AT and T was no better than Sprint -- even after they upgraded phones from 2G to 3G models. I finally got a 3G phone that actually worked pretty good at home and have been using it for years. I finally had to replace this phone, and the AT and T phone I got as a replacement (a Samsung) is a piece of junk. It hardly works anywhere. I have replaced it twice now, and I am not being told to "upgrade to 4G" because it should work better. If you look at AT and T service map, it claims good coverage all over most of Dayton area. Same with Verizon. At least Sprint's (3G) Voice map is honest -- it shows variations block-to-block on where coverage is Good, Fair, or Poor. From my experiences with Sprint this map seems to be very honest. AT and T's map shows only a few "weak" areas and no areas show with poor or no service. This is plain dishonest. Now AT and T says I should upgrade to a 4G phone (requiring a long-term commitment or large cash outlay) to get good service! Even with the better AT and T phone I had for years, I had noticed reductions in service quality over the last year or so. Lots of dropped calls, lots of "no network" when a call is attempted. Lots of "no rings". Sometimes you call someone and the phone rings and when it is answered, the phone goes dead. (The ringtone you hear is not the actual phone ringing but a recording of a phone ringing they play while the connection is established. You can call your own cell phone from another phone and see how this works.) As if all the bad service is not bad enough, sometimes voice mails take hours or even days to come through! I have been told that parts of the Belmont area is in valleys, older houses like built in Belmont block 3G signals and every other excuse imaginable. I talked with an AT&T land-line representative when the land line phone went out after a storm. I mentioned that I was having a lot of trouble with AT&T cellular and they said that is why they don't recommend relying on only a cell phone -- because cell phones (even AT and T network phones) are too unreliable! I think the real reason for the problems are that AT and T has too many phones in use for the amount of equipment in place -- a tower can only carry so many calls at one time. When the local tower gets overwhelmed, you get switched to another tower which may have marginal performance, or simply get dropped. A Sprint representative told me when I had the Sprint phone why roaming on AT and T worked better than when I had AT and T equipment. He said AT and T makes more money on roaming and out-of-network call handling than on those made by AT and T flat-rate customers, so when your call comes in and they see you are an AT and T flat rate customer, you are put in the background when more profitable calls are also being handled. I was told by at AT and T representative that AT and T has stopped putting money into any new 3G towers in Dayton area, spending all money on new construction on 4G equipment only. Meanwhile, AT and T and others are using the AT and T equipment more and more for "throwaway" phones, out-of-network calls, etc. More and more 3G phones are in use every day. More and more minutes are used on these phones daily. More and more demand with wireless internet over 3G etc. But no new towers or equipment to support the increased load. Eventually, everyone will be forced to move to 4G even if they don't want to. The 3G systems will simply be turned off and by then there will probably be 5G and maybe even 6G phones out there. Since most cell phone towers are either near each other or are shared by several companies, the Sprint coverage maps for Dayton seem to be in general a good guideline to most 3G systems regardless of carrier.

Almost always get some service, but I drop more calls than I keep. Sometimes it shows 2 bars and other times none, but never full service. Data is worse, half the time my data won't send and the data I receive comes in clumps when the reception allows. Had no problems with Verizon in Miamisburg, but this close to I-675, it is spotty at best.

I don't get much reception on my street at all. But when I go into town more, I get great reception. But, the phone is sometimes lags. I think it's an average phone overall, depending on where you live / go.

I moved here for six months from another state, where I had excellent reception for my I-Phone. Here in Dayton, I have experienced unexpected dropouts on Far Hills near Centerville, and I can barely receive one or two bars in my condo, and my laptop AT&T air card is useless. I do a lot of computer work and also carry a Sprint Smartview Sierra card - it gets 2 bars if I am sitting at the front window, and it will connect, but operation is slow. But it sure beats the AT&T card, which will not even connect. My AT&T I-phone will ring - sometimes - if it is sitting in the window, but there is no two-way voice. I have to go outside and walk a block south to Rahn Rd.and call the caller back to use the AT&T. I also carry a prepaid Motorola TracPhone for backup for emergencies - oddly enough this cheap Motorola flip phone seems to work fine in the condo, but it is too expensive to use for continual calling. FYI - I travel a lot, and I have found nationwide that the Sprint Sierra air card is far superior to the AT&T. Trust me on this one. The AT&T air card is mediocre, and the software to link it to the laptop is very unstable compared to Sprint's software. I love my AT&T wireless phone, but I cannot hardly live with the service. The only bars that AT&T drives me to are not on the phone... if you get my drift...

Im all over dayton and cinci regularly between my job and family. AT&T has full bars all most every where. Tried Verizon a few years back for about a week the coverage was ok but company was a pain to work with (tried them out because of a phone I was interested in). I had a work phone from Sprint about 2 years ago but it lost service if you where in any subburb (coverage issues mainly in homes but would have full coverage if you went out side or on the main roads). Parents had t-moble for about a week up north but they where all ways on roaming. ATT 3G on AT&T runs great all over the area. while their maybe complaints in NY and CA the service coverage is great here in dayton / cinci area. Iv had ATT for my personal phone for about 8 years now with out issue.

Recently (March 2010) I have been experiencing call quality problems and numerous dropped calls at my home. For the previous two years, service has been impeccable. Verizon claims not to have changed anything with their service in the area, but I'm eligible to upgrade my phone! Thanks but no thanks.

Phone is G3. Wasn't even able to get service in the garage! Was told that they don't have much G3 service in Huber Heights! This, after being specifically TOLD by a sales rep that I was in a GREAT G3 location! Switched it to G2. Now I get between 4-5 95-99% of the time. Virtually no dropped calls anymore. To do that, dial in 277634#*# that takes you to phone test mode. Choose Modem Setting. Choose Network Mode. Again, choose Network Mode. Change from either Dual Mode or 3G Mode to 2G Mode. Then back back out.

constant drop calls, no coverage whatsoever in any stores. SOS coverage constantly! I drive all over the Dayton area and I have an enormous amount of dropped calls. I have had 4 service tickets and now this will be my second phone replacement and sim card replacement in the 5 months I've had their service! They keep trying tho I give them that!

I only have reception in my kitchen. I can't walk around the house. I drop every call I make no matter where I am. Cingular (AT&T) is NO help. Last year they said I needed to buy a better phone - on their recommendation we bought samsungs. Not any better at all. On a recent trip into the store (another problem with the phone) I was told that I have a "junky" phone. When I told him that we bought these phones because they told us they were good, he said "well, they were new then and we didn't know any better. Now we know they aren't any good". STILL they would not trade the phone or do anything without charging us (retail price) for the phone. My daughter has a pay as you go phone -- standing in downtown Springboro she had to borrow a friend's phone to call because she had no bars. On my end -- sitting in Kettering on Dorothy Lane I recieved 3 calls from her. 2 never rang, went straight to voice mail and I found out when the missed call ring came through. The 3rd called - for whatever reason - came through just fine. I'd love to leave AT&T... but after reading stuff on here, I don't know that anything else is much better. My sister's Sprint phone never drops calls and even had reception in places I don't even bother with.
