I have had Alltel for 6 years. I am in a rural area with low reception. Towers are within 3 miles. My Alltel service was outstanding even under those conditions for all that time. Since Verizon took over Alltel, there has been a steady decline and now the phones will not work in the house. Verizon is no help - there is NO incentive for them to improve rural service. I am currently checking other service providers!

In my yard outside I might get 1 Bar but if a bird flies by Lost call. I live only 1.4 miles from 2 Towers on the south side.

I have had a number of phones and ones with external "nub" antennas seem to work best. My Motorola has very very rarely let me down when it comes to dropped calls and I walk a lot in the boonies with my dog. It seems to me not so much as the carriers signal / tower location as to what type of phone you have. Some phones are more powerful than others when it comes to sending / reciveing, and some phones brands work better for specific carriers, Motos for AT&T for example. My suggestion would be not give up on your carrier so quickly but try a different phone out, eBay has cheap phones.

Excellent reception the whole way to work. I have had other carriers such as Verizon and AT&T but they were hit and miss with a lot of static. Will stick with Alltel but just wish they didn't lag behind with the new phones as compared to other companies.

Provides a 1.5-2 for BroadbandAccess Provides a 2-4 for NationalAccess Speeds hover around 100K for National hoookups and have seen bursts up to 400K+ when it's picking up a Broadband signal. It is worth it as you may be stuck in an area where Cable is your ONLY other choice! Signal / speed depends on where you are located in a building or outside, etc. and you could potentially pick up National level signals into Blackhorse. Otherwise the Drive-in's about the furthest east before major dropoff. But the more you head into Franklin and Kent to that newer tower the better it'll get. VZWAccess for Broadband isn't bad at all, very portable for laptops and seems to be working quite well. Since this area is a serious 'fringe' and it works it's highly recommended. NOTE: The Verzion PC card is the only way to get Broadband. The older Sierra cards aren't compatible but they would give you up to 140K on the National part. You can't hook an antenna to the new VZW card (why?) and you'd need a repeater or booster antenna that doesn't require a plug-in on your card / phone to latch onto some serious bandwidth from the Kent tower.

Works Great! Verizon is the best company with customer support compared to Cingular and T-Mobile. I would stick the Verizon Wireless

2.5-3.5, depending on the day and weather. Decent reception, dies inside Wal-Mart for the most part whereas Verizon lives. Still strong enough to do GPRS connections if you use the Web features and IM, decent on voice calls without high levels of spotty conversations.

4.5 indoors and 5 outside within a couple of miles of this interesection. Could be due to the new tower at the KSU campus, but signal stays up going east towards Ravenna.
