I purchased a new GSM phone from Edge and 2 yr. plan, planning to disconnect our landline. Reception was good behind our house, not inside. Bought an antenna and extender to bring signal inside. Signal was great until about July 1st. Signal would swing from 3 bars to 0. The previous night, my husband had talked to his sister for an hour with no problem. Edge tried to correct, but without luck and let me out of contract. Contractors with U.S. Cellular have no problem. Very frustrating situation. Love the phone, but the coverage in the valleys off I-5 is terrible; the corridor is good except for a couple of dead spots.

Edge does not work when I get off starveout road to go to my house. I also doesn't work on top of Canyon Mountain. My wife has a tracfone, service provided by US Cellular and it works great pretty much everywhere around here.

Along I-5 GMS reception is very good. There is a dead area just over Canyon Mtn pass, and once off I-5 reception is spotty unless on top of the ridges. In the general area Edge Wireless reception is much better than Cingular's areas (on the same network). Edge Wireless customer service ranks an A, Cingular gets a D+. Edge Wireless company stores will show you reception maps if you ask.

When I signed up with Edge, they promised I'd get coverage at home. The only way I get an adequate signal is connected to the antenna on my roof. The silly part is they put the tower on this little hill -- everything around it is taller, so the mountains block the signal. However, service with i the I-5 corridor is perfect During a recent kitchen remodel, I noticed that my electrician received great reception while at our place. He's with U.S. Cellular. I'm torn with what to do. Edge has the most economical plan for us with the features I need. But will a new GPMS phone be better or worse? I have no contract at the moment and don't want to make a mistake just to get a new phone that doesn't work as well as what I have. I may have to go with U.S. Cellular (who I left about 8 years ago). My advice -- ask for a loaner before buying. I'm going to do that with the Edge distributor (they offered). If I don't get good coverage, I'll do the same thing with U.S. Cellular.
