I can not make calls from within my house. I must be in the street to be able to have a conversation.

No reception at home. Droped calls coming west at the sylvan hills. Droped calls coming south on 405 at the Burnside exit. Droped calls somewhere on 84 W around Lloyd center exit. No reception out Farmington and 219. Considering I'm consistently in these places, it kinda sucks.

Most of the time, the reception is good. However, where I live is a black hole, coming up 26W around the sylvan hills consistently drops calls, and sometimes out in the boonies of Hillsboro it won't even have any signal. Friends also have problems where I live, regardless of who the carrier is, although Verizon seems to have less problems than AT&T / Cingular has. I'm hopeful that Cingular will get better and am getting a new phone, so I'll see how that goes.

Got this phone originally since it was essentially free for work. Should have known better, even though I am not paying for it in monetary terms--you can't even make a call. I would say on a daily basis 75% of calls are dropped, or I am not able to call because of the reception. Luckly I have another phone that is Verizon, and it works just fine. It is kind of ironic that I have to use my Verizon phone to call ATT / cingular and complain. I would say the excuse that they use that "Oregon is a new state that hasn't been upgraded to GSM" is a line. If they wanted to upgrade their infrastructure they could, but they choose not to. Not being able to get reception in the middle of a city is insane, I mean we are not talking about a remote location. The commercials for ATT / Cingular are hilarious---"more bars everywhere"--talk about funny. They need to get with the program---since their rep is essentially in the toilet from most people that I have talked to. If you want to be able to use your minutes get Verizon, for Cingular you can get the 50 minutes a month plan and not have to worry about going over... since you will never be able to call anyone.

Ever since Cingular swallowed ATT, my cell phone service has been awful. Dropped calls. Low bars. Can't even get good reception in my own home. I'm switching.

This is my third phone and first with t-mobile. I hated ATT / Cingular and Sprint believed my entire home except for a corner of my kitchen was a roaming area. So far so good with this one. Reception is excellent to ok just about everywhere I have used it in Portland. No dropped calls. Phone is the cheapy that comes free. T-Mobile has been good about service too

While slightly better than before the ATT-Cingular merger the reception here is lame. Calls are frequently dropped insinde and outside. I rarely get more than 3-4 bars. Usually 1-2

Horrible! As many have stated, it oscilates from no reception to 5 bars minute to minute. A conversation beyond 3 minutes is a rare treat. It used to be even worse... as I couldn't even use it at home, but now I can make short calls. I have a 2 year contract, or I would CERTAINLY SWITCH> I've been forced to use Vonage broadband telephone service in order to have a reliable line at home. AT&T / Cingular simply abuses customers in North Portland. If there were any justice from the FCC, an investigation would be pending or class action would be under way. The service is so poor that I would call it fraud, as I'm in an urban area, their coverage map is well beyond my home, and it is virtually unuseable for more than a "walkie-talkie" type service.

Used to live downtown and had perfect reception everywhere I went... now that I've moved into SE I literally have to leave my house, and usually the neighborhood to have a decent conversation! I'm so frustrated. Now... do I switch to Cingular and hope reception improves... or shell out $175 and run to TMobile (my sister lives with me and has perfect reception throughout the house)????

Where I work is located where Barnes / Burnside meet, we went with AT&T due to the reception, however now that the GSM's are being fazed out and the TDMA's introducted, the reception in the GSM is garbage. I will more than likely switch myself and my staff over to TDMA. I don't think it will make the reception driving down Burnside, going through the tunnel, etc. any better as there are no cell towers along that stretch.
