Signal fades with every single call. I only get a signal if I stand next to my window. Basically no strong signals, whatsoever, if I am in a building. The towers just went down 2 days ago.
I have no trouble with my reception. My family is on Verizon, with the exception of my brother on Sprint, and they like their service as well. Prior to Cingular I had T-Mobile and they gave new meaning to the term "poor service". As soon as I hit 217 the coverage dropped to zero. That figure also applies for their customer service. If you're in the Portland-metro area, especially the West Hills, your best bet for coverage and sevice is Cingular, Verizon or Sprint.
Cingular used to have great reception in downtown Portland, but starting on December 13, a cell tower has been out. Now I can not make any calls or received any. Most of my friends use Cingular and have the same problem (text messages still works sometimes). The customer service agent told me she had no timeline of when it will be corrected and wasn't even aware of the problem until I called. This is the worst service I have ever encountered. They should have at least notified their clients of the problem when it occured and should correct it in a timely fashion.
The only complaint I can make about the phone service with Sprint is that it isn't so hot in my "basement-like" apartment (1-2 bars), but it still works. Outside the apartment and in any normal apartment in the Portland area I have never had a problem. Thumbs up from me. Now if Sprint could just give me a nice phone for signing a new contract.
The entire area from SW Broadway by Council Crest all the to SW Vermont has very bad coverage, I'm guessing due to the tower locations on the hills. The Terwilliger curves area also has notoriously bad cell phone and radio reception, probably for the same reason.
I cannot get through a call without it dropping out. The reception fluctuates minute to minute. I am soon switching. There are cell phone towers above the Alziemer's Care Facility between 35th Pl and 37th, so I might pop in and ask them what carrier set them up.
